We are hiring a Junior Policy Analyst Intern to join our Policy Unit at the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, and your fresh perspectives, ideas, and energy will contribute to change.
As an Intern, you will gain extensive knowledge of the public sector, government decision-making, research and analysis, and communications. This is the perfect opportunity to showcase your creative abilities in a diverse environment that fosters collaboration.
As a Junior Policy Analyst Intern you will play a important role in shaping research, policy development and strategic iniatives wthin the Policy Unit at the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
You will also:
- Support the Manager and other policy and program staff in preparing briefing notes, data analysis, and materials to support submissions to senior leadership and Executive Council.
- Have the opportunity to coordinate of the Department's contracts administration process.
- Have the opportunity to network within the Province of Nova Scotia.
- Have exposure to key files and processes will prepare the candidate for future roles in policy, strategy, and project management within Government.
The following skills and experiences are considered essential:
- You must have graduated from a post-secondary institute, such as a university, community college or recognised trade school within the past three (3) years
- Have background in public administration, research, or other related background in policy / analysis
- Experience drafting and completing communications
- Experience conducting research and analysis
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong written and verbal communication capacities, including strong presentation skills
- Experience developing relationships and building partnerships
- Capacity to manage various tasks while maintaining task deadlines and multiple competing priorities

Salary Range: $2,071.44 - $2,540.10 Bi-Weekly
Note: The salary rates shown are effective April 1, 2026. Should you start in this position before April 1, 2026, your salary will be based on the current rates until April 1.
