Green Collar is a growing landscape construction company specializing in high-quality residential and commercial outdoor projects. Our work includes hardscaping, softscaping, grading, drainage, retaining walls, paving, planting, irrigation, lighting, pool installations, and complete outdoor living spaces.
We are looking for a detail-oriented Construction Estimator with experience in the landscape industry to join our team and support accurate, competitive, and profitable project bidding.
Position Overview
The Construction Estimator will be responsible for reviewing project plans, preparing quantity takeoffs, sourcing pricing, building estimates, and supporting proposal development for landscape construction projects. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work closely with project managers, designers, suppliers, subcontractors, and clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Review drawings, specifications, site plans, and tender documents.
- Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs for materials, labour, equipment, and subcontracted work.
- Estimate costs for landscape construction scopes including grading, excavation, hardscape, softscape, drainage, concrete, retaining walls, fencing, irrigation, lighting, pools, and site furnishings.
- Source and compare supplier and subcontractor pricing.
- Prepare detailed budgets, bid packages, and client proposals.
- Identify project risks, exclusions, assumptions, and value-engineering opportunities.
- Attend site visits and pre-bid meetings as required.
- Work with project managers to review estimates before handoff to production.
- Maintain estimating databases, unit pricing, supplier lists, and historical cost information.
- Support change order pricing and budget updates during active projects.
- Ensure estimates align with company standards, margins, timelines, and quality expectations.
- Maintain accurate records and client/project information in the company CRM system.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of estimating experience in landscape construction, civil construction, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of landscape construction methods, materials, labour, and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, grading plans, details, and specifications.
- Experience with takeoff, estimating, CRM, or project management software is an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
- Strong math, organization, and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and vendor coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines at once.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to attend site visits as needed.
- Sales experience or previous involvement in client-facing proposals, pricing discussions, or business development is a plus.
Preferred Experience
- Knowledge of hardscape installation, planting, irrigation, drainage, and site preparation.
- Experience estimating both residential and commercial landscape projects.
- Familiarity with local suppliers, subcontractors, and construction costs.
- Experience with pool installations, including excavation, grading, concrete, plumbing coordination, equipment pads, coping, decking, drainage, fencing, and integration with surrounding landscape work.
- Experience with software such as LMN, DynaScape, AutoCAD, Aspire, B2W, CRM platforms, or similar systems.
