READY TO GROW WITH YARD DAWGS?
Yard Dawgs Lawn Care is on a mission to be Canada's best lawn care company. We deliver top-notch fertilizer and weed control programs across Western Canada, and we're looking for an Operations Manager to take the reins of our Calgary branch and run it like it's their own.
This is the person who makes sure crews roll out on time, the work gets done right, the trucks and equipment are dialed in, and the branch hits its numbers, day in and day out. If you're a natural leader who likes being the one everything runs through, who takes pride in a tight operation, and who wants real ownership over a branch's success, this is your role.
WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENT
You get to focus on what you're great at: leading people and running operations. Our corporate call center handles customer service, scheduling, and sales, so you're not stuck cold-calling or fielding billing questions all day. Your job is to take the work that's coming in and execute it flawlessly: great crews, sharp equipment, happy customers, and a healthy branch P&L.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
Team leadership
- Hire, train, and mentor a team of technicians who align with Yard Dawgs' core values.
- Provide leadership and support year-round, fostering a collaborative, motivated environment.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and give constructive feedback.
Operational excellence
- Run an organized, efficient shop with all tools, equipment, and products in pristine condition.
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures that improve productivity and service quality.
- Oversee inventory, ensuring all products and chemicals are stocked, handled, and stored properly.
Technical expertise
- Know every product and chemical we use, including applications, mixing, and safety protocols.
- Ensure the whole team is trained on the tools and application equipment for each service.
- Perform and oversee minor equipment repairs and maintenance to keep the branch running.
Data-driven decision making
- Use Excel and our software to track KPIs, metrics, and goals.
- Analyze data to spot trends, variances, and areas to improve.
- Make changes based on the numbers to optimize branch performance and hit targets.
The branch P&L
- Manage the budget and own the branch's financial performance, including labour, equipment, materials, and margins. (Corporate call center fees are standard and set at the company level.)
Quality and reputation
- Deliver the results that keep customers renewing season after season.
- Uphold Yard Dawgs' reputation for quality and reliability in everything the branch does.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Proven experience in a management role, preferably in lawn care, landscaping, agriculture, or a related field-service industry.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills, with a focus on training and mentoring.
- Exceptional organization and attention to detail. You run a clean, tight operation.
- Knowledge of lawn care products, chemicals, tools, and application equipment, or the aptitude to learn it fast.
- Proficiency in Excel and comfort making decisions from data.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities independently.
- Financial awareness. You can read a budget and protect margins.
- A fully valid Class 5 driver's license and a clean driver's abstract.
- An Alberta Pesticide Applicator Certificate is an asset, or a willingness to obtain one.
WHY JOIN YARD DAWGS?
- Competitive pay: $70,000 base salary plus performance bonuses tied to your branch's growth and results.
- Year-round, permanent role. Stable full-time work, not a seasonal gig, with lighter hours and paid time to recharge over the winter.
- Real ownership. You run your own branch and own its P&L.
- Full support: ongoing training and the backing of an established, growing brand, with a call center handling your sales and service.
