As a Rural Mobile Unit (RMU)-Protective Services Officer (PSO), you can make a difference at AHS by ensuring a safe and secure environment for all AHS staff, patients, and visitors. You will be responsible for providing customer services to patients, visitors, & stakeholders, as well as collaborating with Police, municipal departments, community organizations and our clinical partners. You will need strong interpersonal and communication skills to promote collaboration, respect, and mitigate high-stress situations. Your compassion and ability to relate to patients, visitors, and communities help de-escalate conflict and create a positive, safe, diverse, and welcoming environment for all. As an RMU PSO, you will be a first responder to critical events both independently and within a team environment. The ability to managing your time and set priorities when faced with multiple tasks and deadlines is essential to the success of the RMU PSO. Documentation and reporting are a key part of this role. You will utilize the Perspective system to prepare detailed, written documentation of all security and life safety incidents. This position requires a high degree of critical thinking, sound judgement, discretion, and de-escalation techniques. Sound working knowledge of legislation, policy, and legal authorities is a necessary skill for the RMU PSO. Be our new face representing security, safety, and diversity

Description:

As a Protective Services Officer II, you will provide security and protective services for all patients, visitors, staff and AHS property including: violence monitoring, prevention and intervention; enforcement of applicable federal, provincial and municipal statutes; asset loss prevention and internal investigations; preparation of court documents and securing evidence; risk assessment and hazard identification; arrests, apprehensions and detentions of persons and first responder to critical events. You will provide support for facility departments on matters of security and safety practices, participates in reviewing and recommending policy, and fosters and maintains positive public relations through relationships with internal and external contacts.

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent. Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General. Successful completion of Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks program). Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver's Licence. Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed under 4:45 minute, within 6 months prior to commencing employment.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Alberta class 5 NON-GDL operator’s license, or a provincial equivalent, with no more than four demerits and no charges or pending suspensions. A High School diploma or equivalency (e.g. GED). Be eligible for a community peace officer appointment. An extensive security background check is conducted, including a 10-year history review. Successful completion of Physical Ability Requirement Evaluation (PARE) or equivalent within the provincially recognized timeframe is required. You are responsible for test scheduling and payment. Ability to work a 24-hour shift rotation. Current Emergency Level First Aid and CPR. Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in uniformed public servant roles or emergency services (military, forestry, park ranger, corrections, peace officer). Minimum two years of related work experience OR a related degree or diploma in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or Psychology. Other related education may be considered. Knowledge of or training in harm reduction, anti-racism and Indigenous awareness.
