Opening Restaurant Manager — $85,000+ Expected Earnings
850 Degrees Pizzeria
2197 Bloor Street West, Toronto
$60,000 guaranteed salary + projected $25,000+ section tips
Full-time | 40 hours across five shifts | Opening September 2026
Open and lead our second location
850 Degrees is opening in Bloor West, and we’re looking for the hands-on restaurant leader who will build and lead the front-of-house operation from opening day onward.
This is an opportunity to recruit your opening team, establish the service culture and put strong operating habits in place from the beginning. You’ll have real responsibility, direct access to ownership and the support of an established restaurant whose original Long Branch location has earned a loyal neighbourhood following.
We’re an independent, owner-operated stone-fired pizzeria with plans to grow carefully. The leaders who help make Bloor successful will be the first people considered for future General Manager and multi-location opportunities.
How the role works
This is a working General Manager position—not an office-only management job.
You’ll normally work five shifts per week:
- Three shifts leading service while carrying a section and earning the tips from that section
- Two shifts focused on running the floor, administration, coaching and restaurant operations
- Approximately 40 hours across five days
When you carry a section, you are still the leader in the room: setting the pace, watching the whole floor and stepping in before small problems become large ones.
This structure gives you a guaranteed management salary without requiring you to give up the guest interaction and serving income that make restaurant work rewarding.
What you’ll own
- Recruiting, onboarding and training the opening front-of-house team
- Establishing opening, closing, service and guest-recovery standards
- Leading daily shifts with control of pace, energy, cleanliness and hospitality
- Creating schedules and managing labour responsibly
- Coaching employees clearly, fairly and consistently
- Managing cash controls, daily reporting and shift communication
- Building strong menu, wine and feature knowledge across the team
- Increasing sales through genuine hospitality and confident recommendations
- Resolving guest concerns professionally and protecting long-term relationships
- Maintaining clear communication between the floor, kitchen and ownership
- Identifying operating problems and taking responsibility for solving them
What success looks like
During the opening period, you have recruited and trained a dependable team, established clear routines and created a restaurant where employees understand what good service looks like.
Within 12 months, you are running the restaurant confidently without ownership needing to check every detail. The team is stable, shifts are organized, reporting is accurate, guests are being looked after and performance issues are addressed rather than avoided.
The minimum bar
To be considered, your experience must include:
- At least three years in a busy, full-service restaurant
- At least two years leading restaurant shifts as a supervisor, key holder, Assistant Manager, Service Manager or General Manager
- Direct responsibility for opening or closing, staff direction, guest recovery and cash procedures
- Experience training and coaching front-of-house employees
- Working knowledge of scheduling, labour control, sales reporting or restaurant cost management
- The confidence to lead a complete shift when ownership is not present
- Availability for evenings, weekends and holidays
- Smart Serve certification by your first scheduled shift
- Legal authorization to work in Canada
A formal General Manager title is not required. However, serving or training experience without responsibility for the overall shift will not be enough for this position.
Strong assets
- Experience opening a new restaurant
- Italian food, wine or beverage knowledge
- Toast POS, Push Operations or restaurant-reporting experience
- Food Handler certification
- Experience improving labour, sales, staff retention or guest-satisfaction results
This role probably isn’t right for you if
- You are looking for an office-based management position
- You have not yet been accountable for an entire restaurant shift
- You are uncomfortable carrying a serving section
- You cannot consistently work evenings and weekends
- You prefer to pass difficult employee or guest situations to ownership
- You are looking for a short-term position rather than a restaurant to build
Compensation and opportunity
- $70,000 guaranteed annual salary
- $15,000+ projected annual section tips
- $85,000+ expected total annual earnings
- Approximately 40 hours across five shifts
- Direct working relationship with ownership
- Opportunity to help shape a new restaurant from the beginning
- Clear path toward future General Manager and multi-location leadership roles
The tip projection is based on comparable earnings at our Long Branch restaurant and assumes approximately three serving shifts per week. Actual tips will vary with sales, scheduling and guest gratuities.
- Maintain high standards of hospitality by delivering outstanding customer service and resolving guest concerns promptly
- Monitor inventory levels, order supplies, and coordinate kitchen activities to ensure smooth service flow
- Enforce health and safety protocols related to food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety regulations
Experience
- Proven supervising experience in a restaurant or food service environment with strong team management skills
- Extensive food industry knowledge including food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen operations
- Hands-on experience with restaurant management systems such as Micros POS or similar platforms
- Background in hospitality or hotel experience is advantageous
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience in interviewing and developing staff members
- Familiarity with food handling standards, food safety certifications, and restaurant experience in diverse settings such as bars or cafes (Barista experience is a plus)
- Strong understanding of customer service principles combined with excellent communication skills
