We are currently seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer, reporting to the Vice-President, Engineering.

This role would require work-time split between both of our facilities. Isowater Corporation is located at 40 Sandford Fleming Drive, Collingwood, Ontario. In addition, our second facility is located at 1800 17th St E, Owen Sound ON.
The Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will lead the Electrical Engineering team in achieving their targets and goals. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting research, designing, developing, installing, and validating devices and systems utilized in our manufacturing facility. Key responsibilities include establishing preventive maintenance protocols, calibration procedures, and testing methodologies for instrumentation equipment, updating relevant documentation in AutoCAD, documenting the installation process, and providing technical support as needed. Emphasis on advancing process automation to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (“OEE”) and Developing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (“SCADA”) for data transparency and reliability.
Responsibilities for this position include:
- Lead the Electrical Engineering team in achieving their targets and goals
- Support electrical and controls activities for facility operations, maintenance, and capital projects
- Troubleshoot and support industrial automation systems including PLCs, HMIs, drives, process instrumentation, and industrial networking infrastructure
- Develop and maintain technical documentation including: Single line diagrams (SLDs), Instrument loop diagrams (ILDs), Control architecture drawings, Functional design specifications (FDS), Panel layouts and wiring documentation
- Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLC and control systems
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and production teams to improve equipment reliability and process performance
- Participate in commissioning, startup, testing, and validation of new equipment and system upgrades
- Support root cause investigations and corrective actions during equipment failures and process disruptions
- Ensure electrical and control systems comply with applicable electrical codes, safety standards, and company engineering practices
- Assist in standardizing controls architecture and documentation practices across facilities
- Coordinate with vendors, integrators, electricians, and contractors during project execution
- Support junior technical staff and contribute to knowledge sharing across facilities
- Provide cross-site technical support as required
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
- Bachelor’s degree, technologist diploma, or post-secondary education related to Instrumentation & Controls, Electrical Engineering, Automation, or equivalent experience
- 10 plus years of relevant industrial automation, controls, or electrical experience preferred
- Comfortable balancing hands-on field work with technical design and documentation responsibilities
- Strong troubleshooting mindset with practical problem-solving abilities
- Self-motivated and capable of independently managing technical tasks and priorities
- Collaborative team player with strong communication skills
- Possesses a strong work ethic and remains calm under pressure in fast-paced production environments
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
- Comfortable working at heights and capable of lifting up to 40 lbs
- Panel building, field wiring, and commissioning experience are considered strong assets.

Technical Skills:
- Strong experience with industrial automation and control systems
- Experience with: Siemens S7 PLC software, CODESYS-based platforms, ABB 800xA systems
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills in industrial environments
- Experience reading and developing electrical and controls documentation
- Understanding of industrial power distribution, motor controls, instrumentation, and safety circuits
- Experience with high-power rectification equipment is considered an asset
- Familiarity with industrial networking and communication protocols, with an emphasis on cybersecurity best practices
- Experience supporting commissioning, startup, and field integration activities is considered an asset
