The Responsible Gambling Council (RGC) is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to problem gambling prevention. For more than 40 years, we have worked to reduce gambling risk by creating and delivering innovative awareness and information programs in Ontario and around the world. We work with priority populations, including youth, young adults, ethnocultural populations, and the public, to educate people on the risks of gambling, how to mitigate those risks, and how to access support. We work with industry, regulators and government to promote the adoption of improved play safeguards through best practices research, knowledge mobilization, standards development, and the RG Check accreditation program.
Reporting to the SVP, Strategy and Programs, the Director, Prevention Programs is responsible for leading the implementation of organizational strategy into measurable outcomes and sustainable impact. This role requires a highly accountable leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes ownership of results, and brings a strong bias toward action, execution, and continuous improvement.
The Director will lead a diverse portfolio of prevention programming including: high school and post-secondary education programs, training and workshops, and community outreach initiatives across diverse populations, ensuring all programs are effectively planned, implemented, evaluated, and scaled. Success in this role depends equally on the ability to drive performance and build trusted relationships. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Leadership - Design, Delivery & Innovation
- Lead the implementation and operational management of RGC's prevention education program portfolio across diverse populations, including community-based, population-level, and systems-focused programming.
- Drive the expansion, adaptation, and scaling of prevention programming across diverse jurisdictions and populations, setting ambitious goals and ensure programs remain relevant, effective, and evidence-informed.
- Demonstrate a proven ability to use strong problem-solving skills to address complex challenges and drive program success.
- Demonstrate strong financial leadership through the development and oversight of program budgets, ensuring resources are allocated strategically to maximize impact, sustainability, and return on investment.
- Drive a comprehensive annual planning and reporting process, ensuring ambitious objectives are translated into measurable outcomes and organizational impact.
- Hold accountability for prevention program performance, proactively identifying opportunities to improve outcomes, remove barriers, and deliver on commitments.
- Monitor funded program performance against approved work plans, timelines, and budgets, escalating risks or variances as required, and utilizing strong analytical and problem-solving skills to implement corrective actions and drive continuous improvement.
- Identify, pilot, and scale innovative prevention strategies by integrating new technologies and approaches while applying strong problem-solving capabilities and data-driven decision making to improve program reach and effectiveness.
Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement
- Develop and cultivate strategic partnerships across governments, regulators, researchers, community organizations, and funders that accelerate organizational goals and expand RGC's influence and reach.
- Deliver high impact presentations that advance the organizations strategic objectives and communicate the value and effectiveness of RGC’s prevention programs to a range of cross sectoral partners and funders.
- Demonstrate leadership through sharing program insights, outcomes, and impact reports with current and potential funders and cross-sectoral partners.
- Identify and pursue funding and partnership opportunities that strengthen sustainability, expand reach, and increase organizational impact.
- Ensure prevention education programs are responsive to community needs and reflect diverse perspectives, including those with lived experience.
Evidence, Impact & Continuous Improvement
- Champion a culture of accountability, learning, and evidence-informed decision making across all prevention education programs.
- Work closely with RGC’s Research and Knowledge Mobilization team to translate public health research into prevention program strategy and implementation.
- Foster a mindset of continuous improvement, encouraging teams to test new approaches, learn from outcomes, and scale successful initiatives. Work closely with the Evaluations team to establish clear performance and impact frameworks for all prevention programs.
Team Leadership & Organizational Contribution
- Lead, coach, and inspire a high-performing team of Associate Director leaders, creating a culture of accountability, excellence, innovation, and continuous growth.
- Build a high-performing team by establishing clear expectations, aligning priorities, providing coaching and feedback, and recognizing achievement.
- Support Associate Director leaders in navigating complexity, removing barriers, and delivering results while maintaining strong engagement and collaboration.
- Foster a culture of innovation within the team by encouraging creative problem-solving and supporting staff in testing and refining new program models.
- Champion team cohesion and cross-functional collaboration, supporting senior leaders to manage multidisciplinary staff and address challenges within their own teams.
- Contribute to organizational leadership as a member of the management group helping shape organizational strategy, culture, and future growth.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of progressive experience in health promotion/program management.
- Post-secondary degree in public health, social sciences, education, psychology, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- National prevention education or health promotion experience is preferred.
- Proven track record of leading organizational growth, scaling programs, or driving transformational change.
- Proven people leader with experience managing senior staff and multidisciplinary teams undergoing significant growth.
- Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into action and deliver measurable results in complex environments.
- Strong relationship builder who can establish credibility and influence across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including team building and strong decision-making skills.
- Experience working with government, regulators, and community partners.
- Commitment to RGC’s mission and vision.

- Some travel required.

Hiring range is
$144,000-$155,000 annually commensurate with skills and experience.
