- Nurse Medical Office Assistant
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Kincardine Family Health Organization (KFHO) is a group of family physicians who work
together to provide access to primary care to our community.
The successful applicant for the Nurse Medical Office Assistant, will be able to work in close collaboration with a primary care physician to help with coordinating patient and physician schedules, and be able to provide nursing care including assisting in the care, treatment, and education of patients in our clinic.
This role requires excellent communication, organization, and patient engagement skills.
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate nurse who enjoys both direct patient care and healthcare administration. This unique role offers the opportunity to work closely with physicians, patients, and staff while making a meaningful impact on community health.
OVERVIEW
A typical work day may consist of up to an eight (8) hour day, with 60-minutes unpaid
for lunch. Hours will depend on various circumstances, including, but not limited to: (i)
work load, (ii) office demands and (iii) situations of urgency.
Hours are normally from 0830 to 1630 Monday to Thursday. Prior to commencement of
your employment, there will be paid training shifts that will be scheduled. Training shifts
may be half days or full days, at the discretion of the employer.
The position is approximately 28 hours a week with some flexibility.
Wage $35/hour
Job Responsibilities:
- Answer patient and allied care inquiries by phone and in person in a professional and compassionate manner.
- Assist with patient intake, registration, and demographic verification (i.e., ensuring address, phone number, consent to leave messages, OHIP information is updated).
- Schedule appointments for patients based on physician availability and scheduling preferences; this may also include approving or modifying appointments booked with online booking software.
- Provide patients with forms as well as copies of relevant office policies.
- Process uninsured service payments including co-pays, and payment for uninsured visits/services.
- Assist with chart transfers and records requests.
- Call patients to remind them of upcoming appointments and to help the patient
coordinate/navigate testing for off-site services (i.e. lab, diagnostic imaging)
- Provide direct patient care including immunizations, injections, weight/height checks, blood pressure monitoring, dressing changes, ear syringing, and suture/staple removal.
- Support chronic disease management, preventive care, and patient education initiatives.
- Maintain examination rooms, clinic room supplies and stocking items, medical equipment, and sterilization processes.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record
(EMR).
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and patient experience goals.
- Significant amounts of multi-tasking and interruptions

Qualifications and Experience
- Graduate of an approved Nursing Program (RN or RPN).
- Current College of Nurses Certificate of Competence.
- Current registration and good standing with the College of Nurses (Ontario).
- Current Professional Liability Protection.
- A valid police reference screen, enhanced to include vulnerable persons, is required prior to commencement of employment.
- Basic First Aid & CPR (enhanced to include AED).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a busy multidisciplinary team.
- Solid problem-solving, interpersonal, communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement while maintaining professional decorum at all times.
- Ability to function independently under delegated direction in a self-directed and
efficient manner.
- Experience in family practice, primary care, or ambulatory care is considered an asset.
- Computer proficiency an asset (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
- Previous EMR experience preferred (i.e.: Telus – PS Suite).
