Vocational Assessment Counsellor

Industry: Social Services

Wage/Salary: $45,000 – 55,000 per annum

Type of Employment: Contract: Fulltime

Location: 975 Meyerside Drive, Mississauga

We are looking for a suitable candidate to fulfill the position of Vocational Assessment Counselor with Peel Career Assessment Services. This is an exciting opportunity for a Vocational Assessment professional to join a vibrant non-profit organization. If you bring passion, enthusiasm, and energy we would love to hear from you!

Responsibilities:

· Utilise Assessment Tools in evaluating the client's vocational assessment needs;

· Developing vocational assessment workshops to support persons with disabilities

· Work alongside clients in our simulated warehouse to determine work tolerances

· Prepare reports to submit to funding agencies

· Conducting job development, direct marketing and job search activities in collaboration with community employers;

· Advocating on behalf of the client in accomplishing their goals of returning to the workforce.

· Maintain client and employer files according to the established management information systems and procedures, while adhering to privacy and confidentiality requirements.

· Identify transferable skills in the context of current job market trends and opportunities

· Provide job development for PWD clients to access the hidden job market.

· Asist clients to identify realistic employment options through vocational assessment and exploration

· Create resumes and cover letters tailored to client’s needs and employment objectives

· Support job placement services including job development, client and employer needs analysis, job site analysis and job accommodation and coordination of on the job supports

· Provide employment and motivational counseling

· Complete required reports

· Achieve quality service standards for client satisfaction, timely delivery of service and employment

· Other duties as assigned from time to time.

Education, Training, and Experience:

Completion of a recognized Bachelor’s Degree in an applicable social or health sciences program
Two (2) year's recent related experience providing vocational rehabilitation counselling and job marketing/development to individuals with disabilities, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Eligibility for certification as a rehabilitation professional with a recognized association.
Appropriate valid Ontario driver’s license.

Qualifications:

o Previous experience working in vocational assessment/rehabilitation and with Persons with Disabilities

o Sensitivity to issues/barriers that people with disabilities experience

o Familiarity with current methods in career counseling including assessment, service planning, job search skills, job analysis and job placement

o Excellent written and verbal communication, and customer service skills

o Well-developed time management, organization and teamwork skills

o Demonstrated ability to prioritize and work well under pressure

o Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and Adobe software

o Ability to document, maintain records and assist in reports

o Exceptional organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and quickly adapt to change.

o Excellent problem solving and analytical abilities; proactive in anticipating client need

o Ability to work within a team environment with limited supervision.

o Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, learn quickly, adapt, be flexible and resourceful with the ability to set and meet deadlines and targets

o Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset;

o Completed related post-secondary education in the Social Services field

o A Vulnerable Sector Search is required some evenings and weekends required
