Full job description

Director of Operations / CFO Chief Financial Officer

The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the finance team and administration. The position is also responsible for reporting the statements of each department to the respective department heads and guiding their operations while driving efficiencies wherever possible. This position would also be responsible for developing banking relationships, property development and industry partner relationships, reviewing any credit, large project and partnership agreements.

What you will be doing as a Director of Operations / CFO:

Finance Team

Guidance and management of all company Controllers and Director of Finance.
Ensure month end process is completed and accurate.
Ensure billing and completed in a timely manner and oversee development of new processes for new customer systems.
Ensure receivables are kept under 50 days outstanding.
Hire, train, supervise and motivate employees.
Development of internal control processes, further, the CFO must ensure the continuous improvement of internal controls, policies and procedures.
Develop standards and measure actual performance against expected performance and historical performance.
Design management reports for performance analysis and cost control.

Banking

Develop and maintain banking relationships.
Negotiate credit facilities for each company and property development.
Ensure bank reporting is completed and accurate.

Office administration

Ensure redundancy for critical roles.
Document flow planning.
Manage and develop invoicing, inventory and work order tracking with changing software to ensure no missed billing and good internal controls.

Business Development

Guide department heads in putting together capital expenditure requests.
Assist business development staff in planning property purchases and sales.
Set up cost management sheets for development staff to keep projects reasonably within budget tolerances.
Identify risks and strategic opportunities, making specific recommendations
Keep ownership aware of any opportunities to reduce operating costs and/or minimize tax liabilities.
Represent the company in negotiating prices and contract arrangements.

Department Head Reporting and Management

Review financial statements monthly with each department head.
Drive efficiencies in each department where reasonable.
Explore cost saving opportunities.
Assist in negotiating cost of goods and supply agreements for each department.
Follow up with department heads on long term goals for their departments.
Assist senior management in financial planning and results management.

Development and industry partnerships

Oversee capital deployment, and financing structures, including joint ventures, land development financing, and Vendor Take-Back (VTB) portfolio management.
Ensure lending invoicing is current and charges are invoiced according to loan agreements.

What you should have as a Director of Operations / CFO:

The following skills and abilities are required

CPA Ontario designation
10 years of experience in finance
10 years of experience in management (experience can overlap with experience in finance)
Experience in the field of manufacturing, energy or construction is an asset but not required Willing to train in industry specific knowledge (ready- mix concrete, aggregates etc)
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills.
Demonstrated leadership skills, including effective coaching skills.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated decision making skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department heads, vendors and customers.
