Position Summary:
A Yard Associate is committed to achieving Rona Doidge Building Centres Ltd.’s Service sales and service goals while providing the customers with the best shopping experience possible.
Wage is dependent on experience.
Location: This position is located at the RONA store in Port Hope, Ontario
Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Build strong lasting relationships with retail, professional, and contractor customers. Initiate contact with every customer to ensure that this is their best service available in our market.
- Assist customers with locating and selecting lumber and building materials.
- Provide knowledgeable advice and recommendations on products.
- Process customer orders, including loading and securing materials for transport.
- Address customer inquiries and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
- Prepare and fulfill customer orders accurately and efficiently.
Yard Operations & Equipment
- Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to move products.
- Load and unload delivery trucks, ensuring safe and secure transport of materials.
- Checks each load going out for accuracy at time of load building.
- Utilizes the Delivery Tag on all orders and ensures that they are filled out completely.
- Have deliveries built and loaded the previous night so that the trucks can be rolling for first thing deliveries.
- Continually monitors the condition of equipment.
- Maintains and analyzes records of maintenance and repairs by unit.
- Ensures that logbooks and inspection sheets are maintained daily.
- Makes sure that the delivery vehicles are clean inside and out, at all times.
Team Collaboration & Support
- Collaborate with the sales and delivery teams to coordinate order fulfillment.
- May be required to assist on deliveries.
- Possible directing operations in the Yard Manager’s absence; opening or closing the yard locking and shutting down the facilities.
- Work closely with other yard associates and team members to achieve operational goals.
- Assist with training new employees on yard procedures and safety practices.
Yard Maintenance & Inventory
- Keep the lumberyard clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of materials to prevent damage.
- Maintain and inspect equipment regularly to ensure it is in good working condition.
- Ensure inventory integrity and identify potential sources of inventory losses. Implement corrective measures as required in conjunction with the Yard Manager.
- Receive, inspect, and stock incoming inventory.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure products are correctly labeled.
- Participate in regular inventory counts and report discrepancies to the Yard Manager and/or Inventory Control Associate.
- Replenish stock as needed to ensure product availability.
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to safety protocols and promote a safe working environment.
- Follows all Doidge Building Centres Ltd.’s policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Health and Safety Manual, National Health and Safety Guide, Code of Conduct, and any other company communication.
- Upholds Section 28 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), including, but not limited to adhering to safe work practices, wearing personal protective equipment, and participating in health and safety training.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participates in regular professional development and training – including computer assisted training and Workday Learning.
- May participate in store committees (Customer Service Committee, Joint Health and Safety Committee, Community Involvement Committee, Social Club).
- Understands and executes merchandising and marketing initiatives developed by management.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Exemplary listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Effective time management and problem-solving skills; ability to set priorities and deliver results within deadlines.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Knowledge of the building construction industry; trends, products, application techniques and projects an asset.
- Flexible availability based on store needs (includes evenings and weekends).
- First aid trained is an asset.
- Basic math skills are required.
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License preferred.
Working Conditions:
- The position works primarily outdoors in various weather conditions.
- The role involves physical labour, including lifting, bending, and operating equipment.
- Medium to heavy lifting is a component of this position.
- Use of ladders and lifting techniques when required.

Pay: $18.50-$20.00 per hour
