Are you passionate about protecting the environment? Can you see yourself performing non-radiological and some radiological environmental monitoring? Our Chalk River location is looking for a Chemical Technologist to assist with sample collection, preparation, analysis and reporting in support of multiple monitoring programs. Apply today!

What will you be doing!

Collecting and preparing environmental samples from ground and surface waters, and biota.
Analyzing and reporting environmental samples for non-radiological and some radiological parameters.
Acting as a subject matter expert in non-radiological monitoring while providing oversight to others in the laboratory.
Responding to queries for non-radiological monitoring for the branch.
Contributing to the efficiency and maximization of the Environmental Monitoring Branch output.

What we are looking for:

Education
- Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology, or equivalent formal education, in a field relevant to the position (e.g. Chemistry, Environmental Technology) and pertinent technological experience OR Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent and pertinent and progressive experience, additional education and/or training.
Experience
- Experienced working in a laboratory environment involving chemical preparations and analyses using established procedures.
- Experience with specialized analytical equipment and techniques for environmental chemical applications.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with a strong attention to fine details.
- Proficient in wet chemistry, solution preparation and instrument calibration and use.
- Skilled in laboratory information management system usage and maintenance.
- Diligent in maintaining lab supplies and practiced in addressing supplier issues.
Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
This position is part of the USW 1568 union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the USW 1568 Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you’ll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
Some of the fieldwork will require significant physical effort (e.g., transporting larger sample volumes).
Both field and laboratory work throughout the year, and as such involves working in extreme environmental conditions and with various wildlife.
