As a member of a multi-disciplinary clinical team, the successful candidate will provide short-term, client-centered counselling services to youth aged 12 to 17 within a community resource center setting. The counsellor will support youth experiencing a range of emotional, behavioural, social, family, school, and mental health challenges.
The role includes assessment, goal-oriented counselling, advocacy, system navigation, facilitation of group programming and mental health workshops. Services may be delivered in person, virtually, or within community settings.
The Counsellor will work collaboratively with internal programs, community partners, schools, healthcare providers, and social service agencies to ensure accessible and responsive care.
The successful applicant must be committed to working within the Nepean, Rideau and Osgoode Community Resource Centre’s model of Community Development.
JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: (https://)
Counselling and Clinical Support
- Provide short-term counselling services to youth aged 12–17 and adults using trauma-informed, strength-based, anti-oppressive, and culturally responsive approaches.
- Conduct intake assessments, risk assessments, safety planning, and goal setting with clients.
- Support clients experiencing concerns related to anxiety, depression, trauma, family conflict, grief, emotional regulation, school/work related stress, self-esteem, and social challenges.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation in accordance with agency policies and professional standards.
- Develop individualized service plans in collaboration with youth and caregivers, where appropriate.
- Provide referrals and assist youth and families in accessing appropriate community resources and services.
Group Facilitation and Community Education (https://)
- May develop and facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational groups for youth and adults in collaboration with the counselling team.
- May plan and deliver mental health workshops, presentations, and community education sessions for youth and adults in various settings.
- Promote mental health awareness, resilience, coping strategies, and wellness through group programming and outreach initiatives.
- Adapt workshop materials and facilitation approaches to meet the diverse needs of participants.
Wrap-Around and Community Support (https://)
- Assist clients with system navigation and access to community-based supports.
- Collaborate with schools, healthcare providers, child and youth service agencies, and community organizations to coordinate care and support positive outcomes.
- Advocate on behalf of clients when appropriate.
- Participate in case consultations, team meetings, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Program and Administrative Responsibilities (https://)
- Maintain caseloads in accordance with agency expectations and service standards.
- Participate in program development, outreach activities, and community initiatives as required.
- Support data collection, reporting requirements, and outcome evaluation activities.
- Adhere to all agency policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements, and ethical guidelines.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and clinical supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS: (https://)
Education (https://)
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology, Psychotherapy, or a related mental health discipline.
Experience (https://)
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience providing counselling services to youth in community, clinical, school, or social service settings.
- Experience facilitating groups and delivering workshops or psychoeducational programming is preferred.
- Experience working with diverse populations and complex client needs.
Language Requirements (https://)
- Bilingual in English and French (verbal) is required.
Professional Requirements (https://)
- Registration in good standing with a relevant professional regulatory body in Ontario is preferred (e.g., OCSWSSW or CRPO).
- Valid Vulnerable Sector Check required upon hire.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle are required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (https://)
- Strong knowledge of youth mental health, trauma-informed practice, and adolescent development.
- Demonstrated ability to build rapport and therapeutic relationships with youth and adult clients.
- Strong group facilitation, presentation, and public speaking skills.
- Knowledge of community resources and social service systems within Ottawa and NROCRC’s rural catchment area.
- Strong communication, organizational, and documentation abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Working Conditions (https://)
- The successful candidate must be willing and able to work in our rural catchment (Osgoode Village) and in our main office in the city.
- Combination of in-office, virtual, and community-based service delivery.
- Some evening hours are required to meet client needs.
- Regular travel throughout Ottawa and surrounding rural communities is required.
