Full job description

Gitanes is seeking an experienced Server / Sommelier to join our team. We are looking for a passionate hospitality professional who is equally excited about delivering exceptional guest experiences and sharing their knowledge of wine, food, and beverage.

Gitanes is a French-inspired restaurant in the heart of Ottawa, offering thoughtfully crafted cuisine, an extensive wine program, and warm, attentive service. The ideal candidate is confident in a fine dining environment, has a strong appreciation for wine, and enjoys creating memorable dining experiences for guests.

Responsibilities

Provide attentive, polished, and professional service throughout the guest experience
Confidently guide guests through food, wine, cocktail, and beverage selections
Make thoughtful wine pairings and recommendations based on guest preferences
Maintain a strong knowledge of our wine list, menu offerings, ingredients, and daily features
Assist with wine service, inventory management, and maintaining cellar organization
Work collaboratively with the kitchen and front-of-house teams to ensure seamless service
Anticipate guest needs and resolve concerns with professionalism and care
Assist with opening, closing, and general dining room duties
Uphold Gitanes' standards of hospitality, service, and attention to detail

Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of experience serving in a fine dining or upscale restaurant environment
Strong wine knowledge; formal wine education (WSET, CMS, ISG, or equivalent) is considered an asset
Passion for food, wine, and hospitality
Excellent communication and guest service skills
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
Strong organizational skills and a team-oriented mindset
Evening and weekend availability required
Smart Serve certification required
Bilingualism (English and French) is preferred
