Locum Veterinarian — Spay/Neuter Surgeon

Overview:
Seeking an experienced, reliable locum veterinarian to provide high-volume spay/neuter surgical services at the Ottawa Valley Spay/Neuter Clinic. Ideal for a vet who is efficient, comfortable with routine and slightly complex sterilization surgeries (cryptorchid/hernia, etc) comfortable with anesthesia and pain management, and committed to compassionate, high-quality care.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform high-volume spay/neuter surgeries (cats and small dogs) safely and efficiently.
Perform pre-op assessments and post-op exams
Manage perioperative pain and complications.
Maintain accurate medical records and surgical logs.
Adhere to clinic protocols for infection control, sterilization, and patient flow.
Mentor/coordinate with veterinary technicians and support staff to maintain pace and safety.

Qualifications:

DVM Degree and current licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Ontario (or eligible for emergency/temporary locum licensing).
Minimum 2 years of surgical experience; prior high-volume spay/neuter experience strongly preferred.
Proficient in routine ovariohysterectomy and castration for cats and dogs; comfortable managing common intraoperative complications.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.

Logistics & Expectations:

Location: Ottawa Valley Spay/Neuter Clinic
Shift types: Single-day locum shifts, multi-day blocks, or recurring weekly locum coverage — flexible scheduling. Typical surgical day: 8–10 hours with high patient throughput. Current surgery days are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Start date: Immediate openings and ongoing opportunities.
Compensation: Competitive daily/day-rate or hourly rate (dependent on experience)
Equipment/Support: Clinic provides surgical suites, anesthesia machines, monitoring equipment, supplies, and experienced veterinary technicians.
Documentation: Must supply current veterinary license, malpractice/ professional liability coverage information, relevant work experience.
