Financial Controller – Construction Operations

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller with strong construction operations and project accounting experience to support active projects, operational finance, and overall business performance across multiple operating entities.

Why This Role Is Different

This role sits at the intersection of construction operations, project performance, and financial leadership.
The successful candidate will work closely with ownership, Project Managers, estimators, and operational teams while maintaining visibility across active projects, project profitability, forecasting, Work In Progress (WIP), cash flow management, billing, and overall business operations.
This is an opportunity for someone who wants to be deeply involved in the operational side of a construction business and contribute beyond traditional accounting functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee financial operations across active construction and development projects
- Support job costing, project financial oversight, forecasting, budgeting, and profitability reporting
- Manage Work In Progress (WIP) reporting, over/under billing analysis, and project forecasting
- Oversee progress billings, draws, holdbacks, subcontractor payments, and construction cash flow management
- Work closely with Project Managers, estimators, ownership, and operations teams to maintain financial visibility across projects
- Oversee accounting operations including AP, AR, payroll, banking, and financial reporting functions
- Support bonding requirements, reporting packages, and external financial relationships
- Contribute to financial process improvements, reporting visibility, and operational controls across the organization
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of construction accounting or financial leadership experience within commercial construction, development, or project-based construction environments
- Mandatory experience using Jonas Construction Software
- Strong understanding of job costing, Work In Progress (WIP), progress billing, forecasting, project financial oversight, and construction cash flow management
- Experience supporting multiple active construction projects and collaborating closely with operational leadership teams
- Previous experience within Industrial, Commercial, Institutional (ICI), development, or design-build construction environments strongly preferred
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across ownership, operations, project management, and finance teams
- Highly organized, proactive, and operationally minded approach
