Job Type: Full-time Pay: $35.30/hour + Benefits & Pension
Schedule: 48+ hours/week | Day shift | Monday–Friday with occasional weekends
We are seeking experienced Fibre Optic Splicers to support the installation, testing, and maintenance of telecommunications infrastructure across Grey, Bruce, and Huron Counties. This is a union position offering competitive wages, benefits, and long-term career stability.
Ideal candidates will have experience in construction, utilities, excavation, and telecommunications. This position requires individuals who take pride in quality workmanship. A strong commitment to safety, reliability, and teamwork is essential.
Responsibilities
- Perform fusion and mechanical splicing on single-mode and multi-mode fibre.
- Install, terminate, and test fibre optic cables, connectors, and enclosures in aerial and underground environments.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, splice diagrams, and network build prints.
- Conduct OTDR, power meter, and light source testing to verify signal quality and troubleshoot faults.
- Diagnose and repair fibre outages, damaged cables, and network issues in the field.
- Document splice records, test results, and as-built information accurately.
- Operate and maintain splicing equipment, testing instruments, and hand tools.
- Work closely with construction crews, project managers, and network teams to meet project timelines.
- Follow all safety procedures and industry standards in field environments.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a fibre optic splicer required.
- Experience with fusion splicing and fibre testing equipment (OTDR, power meter, light source).
- Valid G driver’s licence with clean driver’s abstract required.
- Reliable transportation required.
- AZ/DZ/ARZ licence is considered an asset.
- Experience operating heavy equipment considered an asset, including: Excavators, Backhoes, Directional drills, Dozers, Tile ploughs.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a crew.
- Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs., working at heights, and working outdoors in varying conditions.
