EV Systems Engineer / Technologist
Location: Parksville, BC | Company: Canadian Electric Vehicles (canEV)
Type: Full-Time | Experience: Entry to Senior (We hire for mindset)
The Opportunity
Tired of being a small cog in a giant corporate machine? At CanEV, you don’t just design on a screen—you build, test, and drive. We are a Vancouver Island original, leading the charge in electric work trucks and powertrain technology.
We are looking for Electronic, Electrical, or Mechatronic minds who are "take it apart to see how it works" people. Whether you are a fresh grad with a garage full of projects or a seasoned pro looking for a new challenge, we want your hands-on creativity.
What You’ll Do
This isn’t an assembly line. You’ll own projects from concept to completion across R&D, custom builds, and work with production.
- Design & Innovate: Create analog circuits, PCB layouts, and custom component enclosures.
- System Integration: Wire and program dash displays, chargers, BMS, and VCUs.
- Hands-on Prototyping: Assemble automotive wiring harnesses and integrate high-voltage electric motors/inverters.
- Problem Solve: Use software tools to configure controllers and troubleshoot custom EV builds as a team.
Who You Are
- The "Maker" Mindset: You build 3D printers, restore old cars, code Arduinos, or fix your own boat. We value your personal hobby projects as much as your work history.
- Technically Curious: You have a degree or diploma in Engineering/Technology, or the equivalent "street cred" in electronics and mechanics.
- Versatile: You thrive in a low-volume, high-variety environment where every day brings a different challenge.
- Local & Committed: You’re looking for a long-term career on the Island helping us move the world toward sustainable transport.
Why Join canEV?
- Real-World Impact: See your designs hit the road in real-time.
- Training & Mentorship: We are willing to train the right candidate who has the foundational "tinkerer" DNA.
- Work-Life Balance: Enjoy the Parksville lifestyle while working at the forefront of the EV revolution.
How to Apply
Don’t just send a dry list of past jobs. Tell us what you’ve built.
Please include a section on your resume for hobbies, personal projects, or interests (e.g., robotics, car restoration, home automation, etc.). If you’ve ever taken something apart just to see how it works—and managed to put it back together—we want to hear about it.
