The Opportunity:
We are seeking a caring, dependable, and motivated Veterinary Technician or Registered Veterinary Technician to join our team.
We may also consider candidates who are currently enrolled in an accredited veterinary technology program and are looking for an opportunity to gain practical experience while developing their clinical skills.
The ideal candidate is organized, compassionate, confident working with animals, and committed to supporting both patients and fellow team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, and procedures
- Safely handle and restrain dogs and cats
- Collect blood, urine, and other diagnostic samples
- Perform in-house laboratory testing
- Prepare patients and equipment for surgery
- Monitor patients during anesthesia and recovery, depending on training and experience
- Take and process diagnostic radiographs
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by a veterinarian
- Place IV catheters and manage fluid therapy, depending on qualifications
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records
- Provide clear and compassionate client education
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and infection-control standards
- Assist with inventory, treatment-area organization, and daily hospital workflow
- Work collaboratively with veterinarians, receptionists, assistants, and other team members
Required Qualifications:
- Veterinary technician education, relevant clinical experience is an asset, or current enrolment in an accredited veterinary technology program.
- Strong animal-handling and restraint skills
- Compassionate and respectful communication
- Ability to remain organized in a busy clinical environment
- Strong attention to detail
- Professional, dependable, and team-focused
- Comfortable using computers and electronic medical records
- Able to lift approximately 40–50 lbs with assistance when required
- Willingness to learn and accept constructive feedback
Preferred Qualifications:
- Registered Veterinary Technician designation in British Columbia
- Previous small-animal hospital experience
- Experience with anesthesia monitoring and surgical preparation
- Experience with venipuncture, IV catheter placement, radiography, and laboratory procedures
- Familiarity with veterinary practice-management software
- Knowledge of veterinary medications, preventative care, and common medical terminology
