The Medical Centre, Peterborough, established in 1943, is a multi-disciplinary health facility located near downtown Peterborough and within walking distance of the local hospital. The Medical Centre supports a 22-practice Family Health Organization, 18 specialist practices, and a wide range of clinical support services.
Position Summary:
The EMR & IT Support Specialist is responsible for supporting the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) environment and providing day-to-day technology support to physicians, staff, and clinic operations.
This role focuses on EMR administration, user support, healthcare technology systems, desktop support, reporting, and training. The successful candidate will work closely with physicians, clinic staff, and vendors to ensure systems remain reliable, secure, and effective.
Key Responsibilities:
Desktop and End User Support:
- Configure and deploy computers, monitors, printers, and peripherals
- Install and maintain clinic software applications
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, printing, and connectivity issues
- Support Microsoft 365 applications
- Provide responsive technical support to physicians and staff
- Maintain technology inventory and equipment records
Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Support:
- Administer and support the clinic's Electronic Medical Record environment and other healthcare related systems
- Create, modify, and revoke user accounts and permissions
- Maintain role-based access controls
- Deliver EMR onboarding and training for staff and physicians
- Support chart exports and secure information transfers
- Manage digital fax workflows and document routing
- Monitor and resolve unassigned laboratory results and documents
- Conduct EMR audits to support privacy and compliance requirements
Reporting & Administration
- Generate operational and financial reports as required
- Support physician and clinic reporting needs
- Assist with technology documentation and user guides
- Participate in technology improvement initiatives
Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Systems Technology, Network Administration, or a related field
- Minimum 3-5 years of IT support experience
- Experience supporting: Electronic Medical Record Systems, Microsoft Windows/Mac OS, Microsoft 365, Desktop hardware and software, Printers and peripherals
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Experience working in a healthcare environment is considered an asset
- Experience with Accuro EMR, Ocean, Medeo, Velox PACS, or similar healthcare applications is considered an asset
- Experience developing technology replacement plans and infrastructure roadmaps
- Healthcare or clinical environment experience is considered an asset
- Experience with EMR systems and digital health technologies is considered an asset
