Full job description

King City Lodge Nursing Home is looking for a qualified Full-Time Dietary Aide. The Dietary Aide will assist in the nutritional services provided to the residents of our long-term care home. The successful candidate will follow established policies/procedures and standards, while reporting to the Dietary Manager.

The ideal candidate will:

The successful candidate will follow established policies/procedures and standards, while reporting to the Dietary Manager.

Qualifications

Chef Training or culinary management diploma or certificate granted by a College of Applied Arts and Technology or a private career college (preferred)
Or a certificate of qualification in the trade of Cook or Institutional Cooked that was issued by:

(i) The Director of Apprenticeship under the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998,

(ii) The Registrar of the College under the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009, or

(iii) The Registrar of Skilled Trades Ontario under the Building Opportunities in the Skilled Trades Act, 2021; (preferred)

Or in the reasonable opinion of the Home, have appropriate skills, knowledge and experience in the fields of institutional, health care, restaurant or hospitality cooking to perform the duties required of this position
Food Handlers Certification provided by Public Health or certified agencies
Good communication skills and be able to multi-task
Must understand proper preparation techniques and know how to use commercial kitchen equipment.
Skilled cooking work experience involving the preparation of a variety of complex foods
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
Good interpersonal skills
To show evidence of being focused on people’s feelings when interacting and knowing how to turn a task into positive social interaction.
To undertake and meet all legal requirements within a context of promoting individuals’ rights and measuring/reducing elements of risk.
Clear vulnerable sector screening (within the last 6 months), recent TB test results (within the last 6 months) or Chest Xray (within the last 1 year),
Two supervisory references required,
Provide proof of all required vaccines. The Employer strongly recommends to “stay up to date” with the recommended vaccines. Vaccination requirements are subject to changes as determined by the Employer.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Reviewing menus and standardized recipes before preparing menu items and snacks
Complying with daily production charts, standardized recipes and therapeutic menus.
Preparing and serving the alternative choice for main course, vegetable and dessert at the same time as the first choice.
Portioning menu items in compliance with therapeutic extension menus and using the appropriate utensils.
Making menu substitutions as necessary, and recording these substitutions the production menu before commencing production.
Ensuring that food temperatures remain in the Danger Zone (4C – 60C) for as short a time as possible. Thawing frozen foods either in the refrigerator or under cold running water.
Cooking/reheating foods to the minimum internal temperatures indicated on the temperature logs.
Cooling all pre-prepared foods uncovered in the refrigerator. Cooling all prepared foods in pans no deeper than 10 cm.
Serving hot foods to residents at a minimum temperature of 60C and cold foods at a maximum of 5C.
Taking and recording food temperatures both after cooking, and at point of service. Labeling and dating all foods received, prepared, in process, or leftover. Taking, labeling, and properly storing food samples.
Meeting the time schedule for service of meals and nourishments.
Directing the flow of meal service.
Following proper food handling techniques, including: Washing hands at the hand washing sink in kitchen or on the RHA.
Reducing risk of cross contamination by cleaning and sanitizing equipment after each use.
Using appropriate utensils when preparing/serving food.
Reporting food, supply and equipment needs to the dietary manager.
Alerting food service manager to problems and making recommendations about corrective action.
