Job Summary
The Municipality of Pictou County (MOPC Network) is seeking a motivated and customer-focused Field Services Technician to help expand and maintain our rural broadband network. This hands-on role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, solving technical challenges, and providing excellent customer service while helping connect rural communities to reliable, high-speed internet.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, troubleshoot, and repair fixed wireless and fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband services.
- Complete customer installations, service calls, and equipment replacements.
- Perform fibre splicing, fibre drop installations, and customer premise equipment setup.
- Support preventative maintenance and repairs on network infrastructure, including tower sites.
- Complete signal testing and maintain accurate service documentation using network management systems.
- Represent MOPC Network professionally while delivering exceptional customer service.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- College diploma in electronics, telecommunications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with broadband, fibre optic, or wireless network installations is considered an asset.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence with a satisfactory driver's abstract.
Employment Details
- This is a two-year term position.
- The successful candidate will not become a member of the bargaining unit until successfully completing one (1) year of continuous employment, after which the position will become subject to the applicable collective agreement.
- Continued employment beyond the two-year term is not guaranteed and will be subject to operational requirements and organizational needs.
Working Conditions
This position requires outdoor work in various weather conditions and includes climbing ladders, lifting equipment, and working at heights. The successful candidate must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, overtime, and participation in an on-call rotation as operationally required.
