The opportunity:
Under the supervision of the Community Coordinator, the Summer Reading Program Facilitator will plan and deliver reading programming to children ages 5-12 throughout the summer months. Programming will involve 1:1 reading support, weekly literacy programming, and a one-week summer literacy day camp with Pictou Landing First Nation.
The summer literacy programming is designed to help children become strong readers, have fun while learning during the summer months, provide access to quality books, and help them return to school ready and confident to succeed in September.

Your main responsibilities and major duties:
The Summer Reading Program Facilitator will assist with designing, planning, organizing, delivering, and evaluating the summer literacy programing, working alongside community partners and summer staff.
This will include:
· Promoting programs and ensuring learner registration.
· Preparing and delivering education activities.
· Setting up, organizing, and cleaning up program space.
· Ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment for all participants.
· Evaluating programming with children, youth, parents, and community partners.
· Maintain accurate records of program sessions and submit data according to reporting deadlines.

· Experience working with children and in a camp setting
· A passion for education and community development

· Ability to work in a team and independently
· Ability to communicate effectively and in a respectful manner
· Creative and willing to share thoughts and ideas
· Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing situations
· Skills and experience in risk management are an asset
Additional Requirements
This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs. Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years of age at the beginning of employment, and must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have been granted refugee status in Canada.
First aid training is preferred by not required.
Working with United For Literacy
Hourly wage: $17.00 - $20.00, depending on experience and education
Hours of Work: 35 hours/week
