Power-Link Technologies is growing to meet fast-rising demand for our services — utility substations, solar and BESS plants, and data centre projects across North America — and we are looking for experienced senior field techs to grow with us. We offer technically demanding work across apparatus, protection, and SCADA, real room to grow in both leadership and technical directions, and a great team with diverse skills in the office and the field. This is a field role, but not a field-only company: our substantial engineering team has deep expertise in high-voltage substations, including protection, so you will have strong technical resources behind you on every project. We are also looking for senior people to mentor our junior and intermediate techs as the team grows. Compensation & What We Offer:
● Senior/Lead: $58–$75 per hour, placed within the band based on P&C depth, certifications, and demonstrated ability to lead a job and crew.

Responsibilities:
● Manage and lead a commissioning crew — and mentor junior and intermediate techs; growing our team is part of the senior job.
● Testing and commissioning of MV/HV power system protection & control schemes for utility, renewable generation (solar/BESS), industrial, and data centre projects.
● All types of testing and commissioning across apparatus, protection, and SCADA.
● Read and interpret drawings and troubleshoot / resolve technical issues.
● Work directly with our engineering team on settings, design questions, and commissioning strategy.
● Report preparation and submission.
● Assist with generation of commissioning startup procedures or work instructions.
● Ensure compliance with all safety practices as per corporate, client, and industry standards.
● Initiate and/or respond to customer inquiries, discuss trouble details and confirm resolutions; you are the face of PLT on your job.
Qualifications:
● Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Electrician Journeyman Ticket, or an Electrical Engineering Technologist Diploma from a recognized institute.
● Eligible for registration with APEGA, ASET, or similar.
● Comprehensive understanding of key principles of electrical power system protection and controls including SCADA, relay protection, metering, equipment functionals, and telecom networks.
● Minimum 5+ years of proven experience in medium voltage and/or high voltage utility substations and power generation, with experience in a supervisory role leading and running projects in greenfield and brownfield substations.
● Relay testing of microprocessor-based protection IEDs (SEL, ABB, Siemens, GE, etc.) with fully automated test equipment (Omicron CMC356) and test data management.
● Experienced in high voltage primary equipment testing and commissioning involving power transformers, reactors, circuit breakers, CTs, PTs, surge arresters, disconnect switches, cap and reactor banks, etc.
● Testing and commissioning as per NETA/IEEE/IEC standards.
● Strong understanding of CSA Z462 safety standards.
● Attention to detail is our one non-negotiable — these are high-stakes projects: demanding, and rewarding for exactly that reason.
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
● Strong analytical, risk assessment and problem solving skills, with the organizational skills to manage a wide variety of issues simultaneously.
● Ability to work for extended periods out of town.
● Valid driver's licence with a clean driver's abstract.
● Background checks and Drug and Alcohol Pre-Access Testing will be required as part of employment (federal and utility site access).
● Technical experience specific to our field is an asset at every level — but for intermediate applicants especially, the main thing we hire for is willingness to learn and develop.
Additional Information:
● Our schedule follows utility outage windows and client needs — it is variable, and travel can come up on short notice. Recent out-of-town shifts have run patterns like 10/4, 14/7, 14/14, 21/7 (examples, not guarantees).
● Working hours are generally from 7am – 5:30pm at 10hrs/day; daily hours and shifts change with project requirements, and applicants must be flexible to accommodate this.
