Location: We are seeking experienced Dishwashers/Stewards (Casual) for our Vancouver Convention Centre operation in Vancouver, BC.

Compensation: $20.25 - $21.25 per hour.

Sodexo Live! is the Official Supplier of Food and Beverage Services to the Vancouver Convention Centre. Located on Vancouver’s waterfront with a dramatic mountain backdrop, the award-winning Vancouver Convention Centre offers one of the most beautiful settings in the world. As British Columbia’s flagship convention centre, the facility hosts more than 500 events and welcomes hundreds of thousands of attendees each year, while generating significant economic activity for the Province.

Principal Function:

The Steward position is responsible for the proper washing and storage of plate ware, glassware, silverware, pots, pans, racks, cooking utensils, and other food service equipment items. They will utilize manual cleaning methods as well as automated machinery to maintain Sodexo Live!’s standards for cleanliness and sanitation.

The Steward will be knowledgeable of and responsible for upholding Sodexo Live! standards for proper food handling and sanitation, as well as OSHA standards and MSDS guidelines.

Essential Responsibilities:

Clean all kitchen equipment, food storage areas and the kitchen itself, work closely with the culinary team to maintain cleanliness and Food Safe preparation standards.
Assist with re-stocking, transporting, storing and preparing supplies, equipment, and food items as needed.
Assist with dish-outs.
Separate, securely bag and remove all food waste and recyclable materials.
Sort and rinse dirty items; Carefully place into racks and cycle through dish machine.
Adhere to cleaning rotations and ensure dish room and storage areas are clean and neat; Inspect and monitor areas regularly by working within WorkSafe B.C. standards concerning the use of chemicals, and other physical hazards.
Participate in and foster positive team relations with both front and back of the house staff.
Maintain a clean and sanitary environment.
Uphold safe work practices at all times.
Contribute to goal of 100% customer satisfaction through personal commitment to teamwork and service.

Qualifications/Skills:

Required:

Strong team orientation and ability to work with a variety of departments to accomplish assigned tasks.
Demonstrated ability to understand and effectively implement written and verbal instructions.
Proficient English communication skills in order to effectively interact verbally and listen attentively to co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to work well independently.
Ability to work well in a high stress, fast paced environment.
Scheduling flexibility to meet operational needs.

Preferred:

Previous experience in a fast-paced production kitchen is preferred.
WHMIS training and Food Safe Level 1 are preferred.

Other Requirements:

Must be able to work effectively and safely while subject to wet floors, temperature extremes and excessive noise; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds in weight; must be able to maneuver in an often tightly-quartered environment.

Hours may be extended or irregular to include nights, weekends and holidays.
