This is a casual role at Port Hardy Health Centre on Vancouver Island, BC.

What You’ll Do
Under the direction of the Program Coordinator or designate, the Mental Health Crisis Nurse works with internal and external health care professionals to support children and youth experiencing a mental health crisis or acute psychiatric illness in the Emergency Department, Psychiatric Emergency Services or an inpatient unit.
Using a trauma-informed approach, the Nurse provides mental health and substance use assessments, crisis stabilization, triage, therapeutic care planning, case management and discharge planning. The role also includes providing psychoeducation and family support, documenting assessments and care, screening referrals, gathering relevant background information and arranging urgent psychiatric consultations.
The Nurse contributes to ongoing treatment planning and coordinates referrals and follow-up with other service providers.
What You’ll Need to Apply
- Current registration (or eligibility) with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse.
- Competencies as outlined in Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice (2nd Edition).
- A minimum of two (2) years recent experience working with a multi-disciplinary team with children and youth with acute mental illness.
- Training in Non Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) or equivalent.
- Current CPR certification.
- Crisis or emergency mental health experience an asset.
- Canadian Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse (Certificate) (CPMHN{C}) an asset.
