The IT Technician is responsible for providing front-line technical support, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance for the Municipality’s information technology devices, applications, systems, and services. This includes supporting hardware, software, user accounts, connectivity, mobile devices, telephony, and related components to help ensure secure, reliable, and efficient technology services for municipal operations.

$70,398 - $82,356 per annum (compensation is currently under review)
Qualifications-
Post-secondary education in Information Technology.

CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Endpoint Administrator, or equivalent certifications preferred.

Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar Information Technology role.

Strong knowledge of: Windows Operating Systems, Android, and iOS.

Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, Entra ID, and Intune, as they relate to end-user and endpoint support.

Demonstrated experience diagnosing and resolving computer-related problems by phone, remotely, and in person.

Working knowledge of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Wi-Fi, VPN, and basic network troubleshooting; familiarity with VLANs is an asset.

Working understanding of cloud-based services, application support, multi-factor authentication, endpoint security, and mobile device management.

Proficient knowledge of mobile computing devices and tools (smartphones, tablets, etc.).

Experience using an IT ticketing or service management system to document, prioritize, track, and resolve service requests and incidents.

Responsibilities-
Respond to, prioritize, document, and resolve technical support requests through the Municipality’s ticketing system. Diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, connectivity, account, mobile device, and application issues in a timely and professional manner, both remotely and in person.

Install, configure, deploy, support, and maintain endpoint devices, peripherals, mobile devices, operating systems, software, and network-connected equipment in accordance with municipal standards, including Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android environments.

Provide support for the Municipality’s telephone system and mobile phone fleet, including installing, configuring, setting up, troubleshooting, maintaining, and documenting devices.

Provide end-user support, guidance, and training to new and existing staff on the effective use of municipal technology resources; develop and maintain documentation, job aids, and training materials.
-
Review endpoint, system, network, and security alerts assigned to the help desk or identified through monitoring tools; perform initial investigation, document findings, complete approved remedial actions, and escalate as required.

Perform routine maintenance activities to support a secure and reliable IT environment, including endpoint health checks, patch compliance, antivirus status, offline device follow-up, and approved remedial actions.

Coordinate and collaborate with external vendors, service providers, and municipal partners to support IT projects, resolve technical issues, and maintain technology services.

Assist with the evaluation, testing, deployment, and support of new software, hardware, and technology solutions.

Maintain accurate inventory records and documentation for technology hardware, software, licensing, service requests, repairs, upgrades, and related resources; support lifecycle management and secure disposal procedures.

Assist with the development, review, implementation, and maintenance of configuration standards, operational procedures, support documentation, and technical guidelines.

Review and assess application and software requests, considering licensing, security, compatibility, privacy, supportability, and alignment with organizational standards. Escalate exceptions or higher-risk requests to the appropriate IT resource.

Participate in IT projects by assisting with planning, implementation tasks, testing, documentation, user communication, issue tracking, and post-implementation support.

Work collaboratively with the Network and Systems Administrator, Microsoft 365 and Systems Administrator, and other IT resources to support the delivery, continuity, and reliability of municipal IT services.

Support incident response activities as required, including information gathering, initial triage, documentation, containment support, escalation, and coordination with internal or external resources.

Maintain confidentiality and adhere to applicable municipal policies, procedures, legislative requirements, cybersecurity practices, standards of ethical conduct, and high standards of ethical behaviour, recognizing that personal actions may impact the public’s perception of the Municipality.
