About the Comox Valley Child Development Association:
Established in 1974, the Comox Valley Child Development Association (CVCDA) is honoured to reside on the unceded traditional territories of the Pentlatch, E'iksan and K'ómoks First Nations.
The CVCDA is a dynamic, multi-service not-for-profit agency dedicated to supporting children and families with a wide range of programs for children, youth and young adults with developmental delays and diverse abilities. Our services have spanned across over 50 years in the Comox Valley, and we have grown to become one the largest CDA’s on Vancouver Island.

Job Summary:
The Director of Operations is a senior leadership role within the organization. Together with the Director of Programs, the incumbent holds the decision-making authority for all aspects of the CVCDA’s operations.
The Director of Operations is responsible to advance, oversee and promote the CVCDA’s strategic vision and operations while serving as advocate and spokesperson.
The Director of Operations ensures that the CVCDA continues its tradition of high quality, family centred services which are responsive and connected to community.
The Director of Operations, in partnership with the Board of Directors, maintains current and long term financial viability of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership. The Director of Operations:
- Serves as manager, spokesperson and fundraising representative for an annual budget of over four million dollars;
- Co-leads the organization while effectively collaborating and maximizing the individual and collective expertise of board members, staff, and volunteers;
- Maintains a healthy partnership and effective communication with the Board of Directors, community partners and the staff to improve all aspects of operations.
- Supervises Administrative and Facilities Leads.
Board Relations. The Director of Operations:
- Assists the Board Chair in preparing meeting agendas, and other tasks to assist and ensure efficient and effective Board meetings and communications;
- Assists the Board in helping to identify community leaders to join the Board;
- Works with and supports all Board Committees.
- Presents clear and transparent operating results, projections and annual budgets for Board approval.
Operations and Finances. The Director of Operations:
- Oversees all aspects of finance and operations in the organization.
- Oversees and guides the work of contracted MNP financial team and in-house financial staff.
- Prepares annual operating budgets.
- Monitors financial statements monthly.
- Coordinates and leads the annual audit process, liaises with external auditors and the finance committee of the Board of Directors.
- Oversees all payroll functions to ensure that employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ensures that all aspects of organizational operations adhere to the CARF accreditation standards.
- Manages the ongoing accreditation process culminating in the reaccreditation of the organization every three years.
- Develops with Board of Directors a capital plan, which includes goals for facility maintenance as well as expansion.
Service Delivery. The Director of Operations:
- With Director of Programs, ensures that all programs are providing high quality services that adhere to contract requirements, and accreditation standards.
- With Director of Programs, maintains relationships with program funders, in particular the Ministry of Children and Family Development and Community Living B.C.
- With Director of Programs, completes accurate financial and program reports for funders.
Human Resources. The Director of Operations:
- Leads human resource activities for the organization.
- Further develops the CVCDA’s human resources capacity, enhancing professional development, performance evaluation, training, and recruiting.
- Ensures that recruiting and orientation processes are consistent and streamlined.
- Monitors and updates employee policies as required.
- Is knowledgeable of the conditions in the collective agreements and interprets these for Board and staff members.
- Acts as the management representative in discussions with HSA stewards and Labour Relations officer.
- Acts as management representative on O H & S committee.
- Participates in employment interviews as required.
- Supervises HR support staff.
Community and Public Relations. The Director of Operations:
- With Communications and Marketing lead develops an annual communications plan for the organization and oversees its implementation.
- Makes public presentations to potential donors, government agencies and interested individuals on the work of the CVCDA.
- With the Board, creates and implements an annual fund raising plan.
- Participates in the planning and preparation for the CVCDA Annual Telethon.
- Acts as media spokesperson for the organization.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelors’ degree in a relevant discipline. Masters’ degree preferred.
- A minimum of five year’s management experience within a non-profit organization.
- Experience within a unionized environment.
- Extensive supervisory experience.
- Human resources and financial experience and knowledge in alignment with job duties.
- Experience in working with a Board of Directors.

- Ability to work in a fast paced environment, meeting deadlines and managing a diverse workload

Responsibilities:
- Willingness to participate in agency community engagement activities such as the annual Telethon fundraiser and community engagement
- Vehicle that meets ICBC annual inspection standards, that can transport young children (booster and car seats provided), and valid BC Driver’s License
· A criminal record check will be required
· Will be required to obtain boosters as necessary and set out by agency policy
