Job Overview
We are looking for a motivated and hands-on Jr. Agronomist to work closely with our Senior Agronomist and support our potato production, storage, and packing operations.
The position includes field scouting, crop trials, storage monitoring, quality assessments, data collection, and record-keeping. The successful candidate will work alongside the Agronomist across the field, potato storage facilities, packing facility, and office.
Major Tasks
Crop Production & Agronomy
· Assist with potato variety and growing trials.
· Monitor crop development throughout the growing season.
· Conduct field scouting and crop assessments.
· Assist with soil, tissue, and crop sampling.
· Record crop performance and field activities.
Storage Monitoring
· Inspect potato storages regularly.
· Monitor temperature, humidity, ventilation, and crop condition.
· Identify and report quality, disease, breakdown, or storage concerns.
· Maintain storage records and reports.
Harvest & Crop Assessment
· Inspect and sample incoming potatoes during harvest.
· Assess quality, defects, size, and overall condition.
· Collect and record harvest and quality data.
Quality Assurance
· Assess packed potatoes to ensure customer and market specifications are met.
· Monitor size, appearance, defects, and pack quality.
· Maintain quality and traceability records.
· Report quality concerns and assist with improvements.
Data & Record Keeping
· Enter and maintain field, harvest, storage, and quality data.
· Maintain spreadsheets, reports, and farm records.
· Assist with data analysis and management reports.
· Ensure records are accurate and completed on time.
Education and experience
Preferred:
· Diploma or degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Plant Science, Crop Technology, Biology, or a related field.
· Experience in potato production, crop scouting, quality assurance, storage management, or agricultural research is an asset.
Skills
· Strong attention to detail and observational skills.
· Good organizational, data collection, and record-keeping skills.
· Comfortable using Microsoft Excel and other computer software.
· Good problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Good communication skills and willingness to learn.
· Ability to identify and report crop, storage, and quality concerns.
· Comfortable working in field, storage, packing, and office environments.
· Valid driver’s licence.

Equipment to be used:
Applicants must be able to:
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Walk fields and uneven terrain for extended periods.
- Work outdoors in different weather conditions.
- Work in potato storage and packing facilities.
- Work extended hours when needed during planting and harvest.
Pay: $22.00-$30.00 per hour
