Founders’ Food Hall & Market is seeking a reliable and dedicated Part-Time Facilities
Attendant to help keep our facility clean, safe, and welcoming while supporting the daily
operations of the market and special events. This is a hands-on role that combines
custodial duties with customer service, event support, and general facility operations. The
ideal candidate is dependable, takes pride in their work, enjoys interacting with the public,
and can work independently when required.
Rate of Pay: $18.00/hour
Hours: 10–35 hours per week
Start Date: August 1st
Custodian Duties and Responsibilities
- Open the facility, including unlocking doors, turning on lights, and starting the music.
- Work independently during opening, closing, and throughout scheduled shifts.
- Close and secure the building at the end of the day following established procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment by monitoring the facility, removing garbage and recycling, and addressing cleanliness throughout each shift.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and clean all public, staff, and office areas, including the Port administration offices.
- Clean and sanitize washrooms and restock washrooms and facility supplies as needed.
- Rearrange furniture and wipe down surfaces as required. Maintain outdoor spaces by sweeping entrances, drying patio furniture after rain, cleaning glass doors, salting walkways, and shovelling snow from entrances and patio areas as required.
- Operate outdoor fire pits by removing covers, activating switches, and preparing them for guest use.
- Assist with event setup and teardown, including arranging tables, chairs, equipment, and supporting musicians with setup as required.
- Provide friendly and professional customer service by greeting guests, assisting vendors, and directing visitors as needed.
- Conduct routine inspections of the facility, respond promptly to spills and safety concerns, and report maintenance issues to management.
- Assist vendors with minor facility-related requests.
- Support the team with general operational duties as assigned.
- Follow all health, safety, and operational procedures.
Custodian Requirements and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience as a custodian, janitor, or in a similar role is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of commercial cleaning equipment, cleaning products, and safe handling procedures.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
- Friendly, professional, and customer-focused with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexible and willing to assist with a variety of operational and event-related duties.
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 10 hours, lift up to 30 lbs., and work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Reliable and punctual, with the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
