What you'll do

We're bringing more clean, reliable electricity to the North Coast to foster economic growth and enable our customers to
use clean electricity to power their operations and reduce greenhouse gases.
The North Coast is seeing significant growth in many areas, including ports, mining, hydrogen, technology and liquified
natural gas and the potential demand for electricity exceeds the capacity of the existing transmission system.

To support economic development and to meet the growing demand from customers in northwest B.C. we're expanding our
transmission infrastructure by building new transmission lines, upgrading existing lines, expanding or upgrading
substations, and expanding capacitor stations.

The role is responsible for excellence in safety service delivery in support of BC Hydro’s North Coast Transmission Line
(NCTL) Project, a large-scale, multi-contractor infrastructure program involving transmission line construction, substation
upgrades, and associated works across a geographically dispersed and complex environment.

In this capacity, the Safety Manager provides leadership and oversight to ensure effective safety management across
multiple contractor-led work fronts, supporting BC Hydro’s obligations as Owner to provide governance, coordination, and
safety assurance. This includes enabling consistent application of safety standards, oversight of contractor safety systems,
and coordination within a multi-employer workplace framework involving Prime Contractors and internal teams.

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

Maintain effective working relationships with clients and other stakeholders to deliver safety services. This includes work

with senior leadership teams, Learning and Development, Safety Systems and Assurance, and external parties such as
WorkSafeBC.

Provide direction and leadership to a team of OSHS’s servicing clients to develop and implement safety plans and

strategies.

Develop a strong and engaged team through coaching, mentoring, succession planning and career development.

Establish strong relationships with clients at all levels and regularly engage them in constructive dialogue to find

opportunities to improve processes, resolve complex issues and meet safety requirements.

Collaborate to ensure that staff and contractors are in compliance with safety plans and performing work safely.

Directly intervene in high-risk situations to address and resolve safety issues where required.

Develop a strong understanding of safety hazards and issues, optimizing safety services based on client needs.

Develop staffing strategies for the team in consultation with clients.

Assign, review and schedule work for the team and ensure projects are appropriately resourced and supported.

Assist with managing the financial viability of the department, give input and influence the overall business plan.

Give input into policies and systems to maximize effectiveness and efficiency in delivering safety support.

Work collaboratively within the broader organization to achieve common goals in a manner consistent with BC Hydro's

values.

What you bring

A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in trades and

safety.

Strong safety orientation and leadership capability.

Seven (7) or more years of progressive experience integrating safety and health into the workplace.

Knowledge of safety regulations, policies and practices with sound technical knowledge and understanding of safety and

occupational health.

Experience in a management or leadership role.

Strong relationship building, facilitation, oral and written communication and presentation skills.

Strong leadership and project management skills.

Training in Occupational Health & Safety / Occupational Hygiene would be an asset.

Work experience in a large electrical utility or comparable industrial setting would be an asset.

A valid B.C. Driver’s License with no restrictions.

What else you should know

This is a full-temporary role until approximately March 31, 2031.
Please note a condition of employment for this role is to maintain your Class 5 Driver's License in good standing.
This project includes multiple work locations, including but not limited to Prince George, Burns Lake, Telkwa, Smithers,

Terrace, and potential camp sites situated along the project footprint.

If the successful candidate is not living in Prince George, a project-based shift schedule may apply.
Fly In/Fly Out may be possible for candidates located within BC
Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and developing safety professionals or field safety teams
Proven ability to influence contractors and lead safety performance in a multi-employer environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage from field workers to senior leadership
