The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) invites applications for a tenure-track position in the School of Business at the rank of Assistant Professor, with a proposed starting date of September 1, 2026. Candidates at the Assistant rank should demonstrate research potential (e.g., evidence of an emerging scholarly record, ability to establish and maintain an independent research program), evidence of highquality teaching, capacity for collaboration, and a commitment to collegial service. The instructional topics in this area include but are not limited to: Financial Management, Managerial Accounting, Intermediate Financial Accounting, International Financial Management, Basics of Finance and Accounting, and ESG governance. Expertise in sustainability-related accounting (e.g, accounting for carbon emissions) is a plus.
The School is in the Faculty of Business and Economics that has the mission to create, translate, and mobilize knowledge of sustainable business management practices and economic development in rural and remote locations in the global economy. The mission of the school is to work with our communities and businesses to achieve excellence in sustainable business management practices and education. Our school offers undergraduate and graduate certificate and degree programs, including a BComm, Graduate Certificate in Change Leadership, MBA, and MSc.BA. We strive to incorporate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into the business curriculum. More specifically, the School currently focuses on UNSDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

The successful candidate for this position will be expected to help contribute to the sustainable business strategy of the School, as well as contribute to excellence in research and scholarship in the areas of Accounting and/or Finance.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Business (or related field). Candidates near the completion of their Ph.D. are encouraged to apply providing the requirements for the Ph.D. degree will be completed within a year. Commencement of the appointment will be contingent on the completion of the Ph.D.
Successful candidates for the position must have:
- Demonstrated research in the areas related to Accounting or Finance (with a preference for sustainable business related topics).
- The ability to integrate environmental, social and governance issues of sustainability in their teaching as demonstrated through research or teaching
- Demonstrated potential to develop an independent and robust research program
- Demonstrated ability to work with Faculty within and outside of the business school in teaching, research, and service
- Demonstrated desire to contribute to building Sustainability within Finance and/or Accounting courses
- Demonstrated desire to contribute to service
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a teaching team to ensure consistency across sections in a multi-section course

River and Halfway River First Nations. They are the Dunne-Za people. The Northwest campus in Terrace is situated on traditional Ts’msyen (Tsimshian) territory of the Kitsumkalum and Kitselas First Nations. It includes a satellite campus in the coastal community of Prince Rupert.

Salary
The salary for this position will be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant qualifications and experience as per the UNBC Faculty Association Collective Agreement. The annual salary range for this position is expected to be from $ 90,678 to $131,496.
