POSITION SUMMARY
The Purchaser / Procurement Specialist is responsible for managing the end-to-end procurement process for industrial components and services in support of engineering projects and manufacturing operations.
Reporting to senior leadership and working closely with Project Management, Engineering, Production, and Administration, this role ensures:
- Reliable supplier performance
- Cost control and negotiation
- Risk mitigation
- Alignment between technical requirements, budgets, and schedules
This is a hands-on industrial procurement role focused on operational execution, supplier management, and strategic purchasing support.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Procurement & Supplier Management
- Execute procurement activities aligned with project and operational requirements
- Define, issue, and manage RFQs
- Select suppliers based on cost, quality, capability, capacity, and risk
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, and contractual terms
- Maintain strong supplier relationships (local & international)
- Monitor supplier performance and delivery reliability
Commodity Ownership & Strategic Purchasing
- Manage assigned purchasing commodities/categories
- Develop understanding of supplier markets and sourcing strategies
- Support continuity and transition of commodity ownership as required
- Identify cost reduction and supplier optimization opportunities
- Reduce supply chain risks and improve procurement efficiency
Project & Engineering Collaboration
- Work closely with Project Managers and Engineering teams to support project execution
- Understand technical drawings, specifications, and Bills of Material (BOMs)
- Assess the impact of engineering changes on purchasing requirements and schedules
- Participate in project and supplier meetings as required
Operational Coordination
- Coordinate purchasing priorities with Production and Planning
- Ensure material availability aligns with manufacturing schedules
- Expedite critical components when required
- Support resolution of supplier and material-related issues
Performance, Risk & Process
- Track supplier KPIs (cost, quality, delivery performance)
- Identify procurement risks and mitigation strategies
- Proactively resolve supply chain issues
- Contribute to continuous improvement of procurement processes and systems
Supplier Coordination & RMA Support
- Coordinate supplier-related NCR and RMA activities in collaboration with SQS
- Follow up with suppliers regarding replacement, repair, or credit requests
- Ensure timely supplier response to material and delivery issues
- Coordinate with Quality and Engineering regarding supplier-related concerns
- Escalate recurring supplier performance issues when required
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Experience in industrial procurement or purchasing
(manufacturing, electromechanical, electronics, mechanics, or related industries)
· Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
· Ability to read and understand technical drawings and BOMs
· Understanding of supply chain risks and procurement processes
· Strong organizational and follow-up abilities
· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
· Strong communication and collaboration skills
· Bilingual (French & English)
