SCOPE
Reporting to the Manager, Web Evolution and Front-End Development, the incumbent is responsible for building user-facing solutions for various web initiatives, by implementing design mock-ups into functional webpages and applications. They are responsible for translating visual mock-ups into complete, integrated components of the AEM platform, ensuring bug-free code that respects standards and best practices. This role will work closely with the UCS web team and especially with the Web Evolution team.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Contribute to the development strategy of user-facing projects by evaluating the technical aspects of UX/UI designs and decisions.
• Implement and develop design mock-ups and ideas into complete, functional web pages, web applications, mobile applications, and reusable libraries, templates, and components.
• Develop, test, and debug the front-end of web pages, web applications, templates, components, and mobile applications using appropriate tools, programming languages, technologies, platforms, and processes.
• Use AI tools as part of the daily development workflow, with appropriate verification of AI-generated output and awareness of its limits.
• Collaborate with and assist designers and developers across other units and external to achieve coherent projects.
• Ensure Concordia's website, intranet, mobile app, and various digital projects work on all supported browsers and devices and meet accessibility standards.
• Continue to improve the university-wide content management system through design and development of user-friendly templates, components, interfaces, dialogues, widgets, workflows, and more.
• Regularly present analysis of the university's online landscape and make recommendations related to design and technology.
• Provide technical training, assistance, and documentation to raise the level of in-house expertise and support coordination across teams.
• Identify and recommend new web technologies, features, trends, functionality, and applications in conjunction with department leaders and other internal stakeholders.
• Help automate and simplify development and testing through AI-assisted workflows and emerging technologies.
• Perform other tasks as required by the Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline and two to four years of experience in web front-end development.
• Very good knowledge (Level 5) of spoken English; good knowledge (Level 4) of written English to be able to communicate with faculty and staff members. Basic knowledge (Level 3) of spoken French to communicate with university community.
• Advanced knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript (with and without frameworks).
• In-depth knowledge of industry best practices in web design, development, mobile applications, accessibility, and usability.
• Experience with version control systems.
• Advanced knowledge of enterprise level web content management systems.
• Practical, daily experience using AI tools, with a clear understanding of their strengths and limits.
• Experience creating test plans, documenting technical issues, and performing quality assurance testing, with strong ownership of validating their own work before release.
• Experience with Figma and similar design tools.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work well as part of a team, and individually.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, especially in explaining technical solutions to non-technical colleagues.
• A very strong customer service approach.
• Strong understanding of how to combine new technology with creative innovations.
• Experience with Adobe AEM is an asset.
