Position Description
The McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff as a Clinician-Scientist, Full Professor (Clinical), based at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) is one of the leading academic gastroenterology programs in Canada, providing tertiary and quaternary care across three principal hospital sites: the Royal Victoria Hospital (Glen Site), the Montreal General Hospital, and the Lachine Hospital. The Division delivers comprehensive subspecialty programs in inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology and advanced therapeutic endoscopy.
Job Duties

As a Clinician-Scientist, the candidate will be expected to spend 50% of their time dedicated to research and develop and maintain an independent and productive research program. The research program is expected to attract external peer reviewed funding (e.g. Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Fonds de Recherche Québec—Santé). Internal startup funding may be available on a competitive basis to a suitable candidate.
The remaining 50% of the candidate’s time will be allocated to clinical activity within the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the MUHC. The successful candidate will provide quaternary-level advanced therapeutic endoscopy services as a senior member of the MUHC Advanced Endoscopy Unit, with a clinical practice anchored in complex luminal and third-space interventions. Expected procedural responsibilities include endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) of superficial neoplasia throughout the gastrointestinal tract, complex and large-lesion endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), endoscopic full-thickness resection, hybrid resection techniques, peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for high-acuity pancreatobiliary disease, and interventional endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), including EUS-guided drainage and anastomotic procedures.
The successful candidate will additionally be expected to lead the structured development and dissemination of these techniques across the Division, the McGill network, and Canada, including the design and delivery of competency-based training curricula and simulation-based programs in advanced resection and third-space endoscopy. The successful candidate will also participate in the Division’s general gastroenterology consultative service, multidisciplinary tumour boards in gastrointestinal oncology, and on-call coverage commensurate with the Division’s expectations of senior staff.
The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Candidates must:
Hold an MD degree and must have completed specialty training in Gastroenterology;
Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) in Gastroenterology;
Be eligible for licensure in Quebec and certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec;
Have completed at least three (3) years of dedicated post-residency clinical and research training in advanced therapeutic endoscopy at an internationally recognized expert centre, with documented procedural competency in endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), complex endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), interventional endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), and per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM), including third-space endoscopy procedures;
Hold a PhD or equivalent research doctorate in a discipline relevant to gastrointestinal endoscopy;
Have an established and internationally recognized independent research program in advanced therapeutic endoscopy with a substantial track record of peer-reviewed publications;
Hold the academic rank of Full Professor (or international equivalent) at the time of application, with a sustained record of supervision of MSc, MD, and PhD trainees, an established international invited-lecture portfolio, and a demonstrated record of academic leadership at the institutional, national, and international level;
Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
