The role strengthens BNP Paribas’ commitment to prudent risk management by delivering timely middle‑office controls for distressed‑asset and restructuring activities. It also enhances client service by ensuring accurate transaction execution and providing specialised sector expertise. Ultimately, the position safeguards the bank while supporting best‑in‑class solutions for our corporate clients.
In detail
The team members are responsible of the following activities:
- Provide middle‑office, portfolio and administration support to the Value Preservation Group, enabling efficient handling of distressed‑asset workouts.
- Collaborate with Accounting, Finance and Operations during restructuring closings to apply appropriate accounting treatment and devise operational work‑arounds for unique transactions.
- Manage the MIRO provision tool, offering guidance on accounting requirements and provisioning methodology to ensure consistent credit risk reporting.
- Serve as a subject‑matter expert on credit and regulatory matters for distressed credits, delivering clear guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Conduct GRR back‑testing for doubtful files, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
- Contribute to regulatory and management reporting, preparing accurate data and analyses for oversight bodies.
- Coordinate with cross‑functional teams to resolve transaction‑specific issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimal disruption.
- Support the Bank’s control environment by applying effective, accurate and timely checks that address regulatory, compliance, operational and credit risks.
Work conditions: This position provides for standard working conditions in an office and a normal work schedule from Monday to Friday. This position requires little travel.
The strengths and skills that will help you succeed
- BS or MBA in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant or Certified Public Accountant) designation is an asset.
- The knowledge of English is required.*
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in middle‑office, credit, or restructuring environments.
- Experience in an accounting firm (e.g. Deloitte, KMPG, PwC, E&Y, etc.) is an asset.
- Reasoned and detail‑oriented approach when analyzing financial data and regulatory requirements.
- Dependable organizational skills that enable multitasking and effective prioritisation of workload.
- Collaborative problem‑solving when working with cross‑functional partners such as Accounting, Finance, Operations, and Risk.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) to create clear reports and presentations.
- Understanding of IFRS accounting standards (IFRS 9: loan and receivables, Expected Credit Loss, impairment, etc.) to assess proper treatment of distressed credit transactions and knowledge of US GAAP is an asset.
- Supportive communication style, both verbal and written, to convey complex information clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
- Given the vast majority of our clients, both internal and external, are based outside of Quebec and Canada, specific language requirements may apply. Professional working proficiency in English language is required.
