Gameplay Programmer

With multiple awards to our name, Larian Studios has proven that we’re dedicated to delivering high-quality role-playing games. As we move on to new projects, the studio that brought you Baldur’s Gate 3 & Divinity: Original Sin 2 is looking for a Gameplay Programmer to join the team and help us in crafting the high calibre games our fans have come to expect.

Responsibilities

Work on all aspects of systems of the game: engine features, gameplay, UI, audio, animation, scripting, tools.
Work closely together with the other departments to implement the needed game components;
Work together with almost all content creators to deliver required features;
Write robust, maintainable auto-testable code in TDD fashion;
Be an active participant in the design and production of the game — technical side of the creative team and first line of feedback;
Help scope features and advise on best ways to implement them;
Work within an international team on a daily basis, spread between multiple studios across the world.

Requirements

4+ years experience in C++;
Excellent feel for RPG systems and gameplay in general;
Experience with commercial proprietary engines;
Open-minded, willing to experiment and iterate over a specific feature;
Concepts as state machines, pathfinding, AI routines should be second nature;
Ability to think like a designer to create compelling and fun game play;
You are a team player and willing to take responsibility;
Passion for making and playing great games;
Excellent software design and problem-solving skills;
Excellent software debugging skills;
Excellent architectural skills. Designing many parallel and gameplay systems is not a problem for you;
Game development experience;
This is a full-time, on-site role, requiring your presence in the office to support collaboration and creativity;
A professional level of written and spoken English*.

Nice to have

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or software engineering;
Experience with machine learning algorithms;
Experience with TDD and ECS;
Background in RPGs;
Shipped game/console titles.

Responsabilités

Travailler sur tous les aspects du jeu : fonctionnalités du moteur,gameplay, interface utilisateur, audio, animation, script, outils;
Travailler en étroite collaboration avec les autres départements pour mettre en œuvre les composants de jeu requis;
Travailler avec la quasi-totalité des créateurs de contenu pour livrer les fonctionnalités requises;
Écrire du code robuste, maintenable et auto-testable conformément à la méthode TDD;
Participer activement à la conception et à la production du jeu, en étant du côté technique de l'équipe créative et en étant le premier à effectuer des rétroactions;
Aider à définir les fonctionnalités et donner des conseils sur la meilleure manière de les mettre en œuvre;
Travailler au quotidien au sein d'une équipe internationale répartie surnplusieurs studios du monde entier.

Profil recherché

Au moins 4 ans d'expérience en C++;
Excellentes compétences en systèmes de JDR et en gameplay de manière générale;
Expérience avec les moteurs commerciaux propriétaires;
Ouverture d'esprit, volonté d'expérimenter et de bâtir à partir d'une fonction spécifique;
Les concepts tels que les machines à états, la recherche de chemin et les routines IA devraient être un réflexe;
Capacité à penser comme un concepteur afin de créer des jeux captivants et amusants;
Passion du travail en équipe et volonté d'assumer ses responsabilités;
Passion de faire, et de jouer à, des jeux exceptionnels;
Excellentes compétences de conception logicielle et de résolution de problème;
Excellentes compétences de débogage logiciel;
Excellentes compétences en architecture. La conception de nombreux systèmes de jeu parallèles n'est pas un problème pour vous;
Expérience en développement de jeu;
Ceci est un poste à temps plein dans nos locaux. Votre présence au bureau est requise pour favoriser un esprit de collaboration et de créativité;
La capacité à s'exprimer de manière professionnelle en anglais, à l'oral comme à l'écrit*.

Compétences appréciées

Baccalauréat en informatique ou en génie logiciel;
Expérience avec les algorithmes d'apprentissage automatique;
Expérience avec la méthode TDD et l'ECS;
Parcours dans le JDR;
Plusieurs jeux/titres sur console lancés.
