Sandhill Equipment Corp is looking for a Full-time temporary Drill Operator for our tow locations in Kelowna and Kitimat. Work will be based in Kelowna initially, but travel and work in Kitimat will be required.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Experience operating a drill
- Experience as an excavator operator
- Experience as a blaster helper in surface mining and quarrying or construction
- Adaptable with multi-tasking and problem- solving skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy

- On-the-job training is provided

Reports to: Superintendent on Site

WORKING CONDITIONS & HAZARDS
- Job performed on a mine or construction site e to dust; noise; hot and/or cold temperatures; and in proximity of heavy equipment
- Shift is usually 10-12 hrs per day dependant upon work schedule and rotation. Overtime is almost always required.
- Possible risk of ergonomic-related injury, repetitive stress injury, etc.
- Mental strain due to remaining alert for long hours, maintaining safe working procedures
- Physical strain due to greasing, fueling, climbing into and out of equipment, etc.
- PPE required
RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Drill Operation – Drive and operate tracked or truck-mounted rotary drilling, air-track, or other drilling machines to bore large blast holes to specified depths at staked positions in open-pit mine or quarry. Operate drilling machines to drill blast holes in rock at road or other construction sites.
2) Blast Preparation – May measure location and stake out pattern of holes to be drilled, load blast holes with explosives, and detonate explosives to dislodge coal, ore, or rock.
3) Excavator Operation – Excavate, load and grade earth, rock, gravel, or other materials to prepare for blasting and related activities. May operate other pieces of equipment as required.
4) Equipment Maintenance – Conduct pre-trip inspections before shift and report any issues found. Clean, lubricate, and refill equipment when not performed by an on-site mechanic or fueller.
5) Standard Corporate Responsibilities – Maintain the stability and reputation of the
organization by complying with legal requirements. Conserve resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish the job results. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Be conversant with relevant sections of the Safety Program. Understand WorkSafeBC acts and regulations, as well as the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC.

Pay: $38.00-$42.00 per hour
