Specialized Community Support Worker (SCSW)

We’re looking for Specialized Community Support Workers (SCSWs) to support individuals with behavioural, developmental, and mental health needs in living more independent, meaningful lives. In this role, you’re not just providing support, you’re building relationships, creating safe spaces, and helping people reach goals that matter to them.

What You’ll Be Doing

No two days are the same, but your impact will be.

Support individuals in their daily lives by following personalized care plans and adapting to their unique needs
Help build life skills like communication, emotional regulation, and independence
Be there in both the big moments and the challenging ones, using calm, supportive approaches during times of crisis
Plan and take part in activities that are meaningful to the individual, whether that’s getting out in the community, trying something new, or building routines
Drive and accompany individuals to appointments, activities, and community events
Track progress and share updates with your team to ensure the best possible care
Work alongside families, caregivers, and a supportive team to create consistency and positive outcomes

Creating Safe & Supportive Environments

Recognize when someone is overwhelmed and respond with patience and effective de-escalation strategies
Support physical, emotional, and overall well-being
Administer medication as required and follow all health and safety practices
Stay alert to any safety concerns and take action when needed

Working as Part of a Team

Keep clear and accurate documentation
Communicate openly with supervisors and team members
Take part in team meetings and contribute your perspective
Continue learning, through training, experience, and professional development
Uphold strong ethical standards, confidentiality, and respect in everything you do

What You Bring

A diploma in Child & Youth Care, Human/Social Services, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience supporting individuals with developmental, behavioural, or complex needs is an asset
First Aid & CPR certification
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
A calm, empathetic, and adaptable approach
Confidence in handling challenging situations with professionalism and care
A genuine passion for helping others

Bonus if you have:

NVCI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention)
Food Safety certification

What You’ll Need

Valid Class 5 driver’s license
Reliable vehicle, registration, and insurance ($1,000,000 liability)
Clean driver’s abstract
Clear criminal record, vulnerable sector, and social development checks
Willingness to travel within New Brunswick
