Spyder Controls develops innovative control systems for the RV and Marine industries. Our products combine embedded software, hardware, communication networks, and user interfaces to provide integrated control solutions.
We are looking for Embedded Software Developers to join our growing team in Mcbride BC and Lacombe, Alberta. We are open to candidates ranging from Junior Developer II through Intermediate Developer III, with placement based on demonstrated technical ability, experience, independence, and ownership.
This is an opportunity for developers who want to work hands-on with embedded systems while growing their technical skills and taking on progressively greater responsibility.
What You'll Do
Depending on your experience and level, your responsibilities may include:
- Develop, maintain, debug, and test embedded software for RV and Marine control systems.
- Program and integrate control modules, HMI displays, and switch interfaces.
- Write clean, readable, maintainable, and testable code.
- Troubleshoot software issues involving embedded systems, hardware, and communication networks.
- Work with technologies such as CAN, RV-C, NMEA 2000, J1939, LIN, RS-232, Bluetooth, and other communication technologies as required.
- Analyze logs, traces, system behavior, and hardware interactions to identify root causes.
- Work closely with hardware, testing, project, and other development team members to deliver reliable products.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to software quality and development standards.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for software and features.
- Estimate development work and communicate progress, risks, and potential schedule concerns.
- Translate requirements into practical technical solutions.
- Own development tasks and, at higher levels, complete features from definition through delivery.
- Support integration and customer-related technical issues when required.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to less experienced developers as your experience and role require.
- Take on increasingly complex technical and cross-module problems as you progress within the organization.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for developers at different stages of their embedded software careers. The ideal candidate will have some combination of the following:
- Experience developing software in a professional environment.
- Hands-on experience with embedded systems, microcontrollers, or hardware/software integration.
- Strong programming ability in C and/or C++.
- Ability to read, understand, debug, and modify existing code.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Understanding of software development practices including version control, testing, documentation, and code review.
- Ability to work with hardware and software together to diagnose system-level issues.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing reliable software.
- Ability to work independently while knowing when to ask questions or escalate issues.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to estimate work, manage priorities, and communicate potential delays.
Experience & Level
We are intentionally considering candidates across multiple levels.
Junior Developer III
Candidates at this level are expected to be independently productive on routine development work, debug issues within their area, work with hardware and test teams, and understand the technologies relevant to their assigned work.
Junior Developer IV–V
Candidates at these levels should be capable of leading portions of features, working with light guidance, contributing meaningful code-review feedback, interacting with stakeholders, and mentoring less experienced developers.
Intermediate Developer I–III
Candidates at these levels should be capable of owning features, working across multiple areas of a system, identifying integration risks, developing technical designs and specifications, solving cross-module problems, and taking increasing ownership of feature delivery and technical decisions.
Candidates do not need to meet every responsibility listed above. The position level will be determined based on demonstrated skills, experience, independence, and technical ownership.

Requirements
- Legally entitled to live and work in Canada.
- Ability to work in person in Mcbride, BC and or Lacombe, Alberta.
- Professional software development experience appropriate to the level being considered.
- Experience with embedded software development is strongly preferred.
