Venture Tax Services is hiring 2–3 experienced Personal Tax Preparers for the upcoming tax season.
We are looking for experienced preparers who can confidently handle Canadian personal income tax returns, including T1 returns, sole proprietors (T2125), and rental properties (T776).
This is not an entry-level tax preparation role. We are looking for people who can get up to speed quickly, manage their own files with limited supervision, and maintain accuracy in a busy, deadline-driven environment.
For the right candidates, our goal is to build an ongoing seasonal relationship and welcome you back for future tax seasons.
What You'll Do
- Prepare Canadian personal income tax returns accurately and efficiently
- Prepare T2125 self-employment schedules for sole proprietors
- Prepare T776 rental property schedules, including clients with multiple rental properties
- Review income, expenses, capital asset purchases and supporting documentation
- Prepare returns involving employment income, pensions, investments, medical expenses, donations, tuition and other common deductions and credits
- Identify missing, incomplete or inconsistent information and clearly communicate follow-up requirements
- Maintain complete electronic workpapers, file notes and supporting documentation
- Follow established tax preparation, review, privacy and workflow procedures
- Help the team meet filing deadlines during peak tax season
What We're Looking For
Previous professional experience preparing Canadian personal income tax returns is required.
The ideal candidate will also have:
- Experience preparing T2125 sole proprietor returns
- Experience preparing T776 rental property returns
- Strong working knowledge of CRA personal tax rules, deductions, credits and filing requirements
- Experience using professional tax preparation software
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Ability to manage a high volume of files and competing deadlines
- Sound judgment and the ability to recognize when additional information or senior review is required
- A high level of confidentiality and professionalism when handling client information
Experience with Intuit ProTax is an asset, but not required.
Additional Experience We'd Love to See
Experience with any of the following is considered an asset:
- Capital Cost Allowance (CCA)
- Home-office expense calculations
- Motor vehicle expense calculations
- Multi-property rental portfolios
- Rental property changes in use or dispositions
- GST/HST considerations for self-employed clients
- Reviewing prepared returns or supporting less-experienced tax preparers
Candidates who can confidently handle more complex files or provide return review support may be considered at the upper end of the range.
