Hope Mission is a Christian non-profit social care agency that has been serving vulnerable people in Alberta since 1929. We are one of Alberta’s largest social service agencies and currently operate emergency shelters, addiction recovery programs, youth programs, community outreach services, housing programs, and health programs (delivered through our HopeHealth division) across Edmonton, Red Deer, Wetaskiwin, and beyond. Program Description – Hope Health
Hope Health delivers a variety of health services to clients utilizing Hope Mission’s shelter services. Hope Health’s nurse-led clinics provide accessible frontline healthcare support for individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, mental health challenges, and housing instability. The clinics offer low-barrier health assessments, nursing care, wound care, medication support, referrals, and connections to broader community and recovery services, helping clients address urgent health needs while building stability and trust.
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse provides holistic, trauma-informed, and evidence-based care to clients through direct clinical services, coordination with health and social resources, and leadership within the clinic. Nurses address physical, mental, social, and spiritual health needs with the aim of improving overall client wellness.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Assessment
- Conduct comprehensive client assessments and provide clinical care including wound care, foot care, and injections.
- Facilitate and follow up on medical referrals, prescription support, mobility aids, and health benefit applications.
- Participate in emergency response and provide clinical follow-up when needed.
Documentation & Clinic Operations
- Coordinate and maintain documentation including charting, nursing stats, and referrals.
- Contribute to the organization of the clinic, including inventory, supply restocking, and locking of clinical cabinets.
Collaboration & Team Contribution
- Collaborate with staff and external agencies to ensure cohesive care, including attending shelter team meetings and supporting client transitions.
- Lead or participate in team education, staff devotionals, and spiritual care initiatives.
- Maintain current registration and engage in professional development, contributing to quality improvement efforts and health education resources.
Qualifications
Education & Credentials
- Completion of an approved and relevant nursing program (e.g., RN requires BScN or equivalent).
- Current licensure with the appropriate regulatory body (CARNA, CLPNA, or CRPNA).
- Current individual professional liability insurance.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Welfare Check, is required.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training is an asset; training will be provided if needed.

- Experience working with homeless or vulnerable populations is an asset.
- A belief that recovery is possible and that together we can end chronic homelessness.
Working Conditions
- 8-hour shifts, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
- Requires flexibility for evenings, weekends, or on-call availability as needed.
- Work takes place in a shelter or social services environment; exposure to complex client needs and situations is expected.
Other Requirements
- As a Christian organization, Hope Mission requires employees to sign the Hope Mission Statement of Faith.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on a full-time basis.
- Able to provide a Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search.
- A letter of reference from a ministry or church is an asset.
- Adherence to Hope Mission’s policies and procedures.
