QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY:
1. Registered Nursing License in good standing with the Provincial College of Nurses
2. Current CPR, ACLS,Mandatory- Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certificate is an asset
3. Minimum 1 year experience as an RPN
4. Vulnerable Sector Screen renewed within the year
5. Professional Liability Insurance
SKILLS & ABILITY:
1. High level of proficiency with Microsoft office applications, hospital software applications.
2. Ability to think critically and multitask in a high-pressure situation.
3. Ability to organize and manage an office setting and work with all.
4. Experience supervising staff including performance management, and task direction.
5. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member; establish and maintain
cooperative and collaborative working relationships with members of the interdisciplinary team, and
exercise judgment by participating in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of
patient care according to college standards.
6. Behavior consistent with the hospital’s Standards of Performance.
BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs according to the Standards of Professional Practice set out by the Provincial College of Nurses of and in compliance with the policies, procedures and standards of the facility
2. Accepts clinical responsibility and professional accountability for the care delivered to assigned
patients.
3. Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team, fulfilling responsibilities as a
member of the nursing discipline.
4. Complies with The Ethical Framework for Nurses
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Collaborates with psychiatrists, social workers, mental health therapists, and the interdisciplinary care team to provide coordinated and trauma-informed care for individuals experiencing mental health challenges.
Performs comprehensive psychiatric assessments by reviewing patient history, evaluating mental status, monitoring risk factors, and identifying behavioural or mood changes.
Implements treatment plans by administering psychotropic medications, providing therapeutic interventions, conducting risk assessments, and responding promptly to psychiatric emergencies or crises.
Continuously monitors patient responses to medications and therapeutic interventions, evaluates changes in mental status and behaviour, and adjusts nursing strategies based on clinical judgment and patient needs.
Educates patients and families on mental health conditions, medication management, coping strategies, community resources, and relapse-prevention techniques to support ongoing recovery
Carry out all work assignments safely and be knowledgeable of and in compliance with relevant regulations, policies and procedures in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations, as well as other legislation as applicable.
