About FVCS
Fraser Valley Concrete Scanning Ltd. is a growing specialist concrete-scanning company serving major construction and infrastructure projects throughout British Columbia.
We use ground-penetrating radar (GPR) to locate rebar, post-tension cables, conduits, utilities, and other embedded elements before concrete is cut, cored, or drilled. Our work helps contractors prevent costly strikes, protect workers, and make informed decisions in complex concrete structures.
FVCS invests heavily in advanced equipment, technician development, and improved scanning and reporting methods. We are looking for an experienced operator who can contribute immediately while continuing to develop at a high technical level.
The role
We are hiring an experienced Concrete Scanning Technician who can independently perform and interpret GPR scans on active construction sites.
This is not an entry-level trainee position. The successful candidate will have meaningful, hands-on experience using GPR equipment regularly in a professional setting.
Responsibilities include:
- Independently performing GPR scans on slabs, walls, columns, beams, and other concrete elements
- Locating and marking rebar, post-tension cables, electrical conduits, utilities, and other embedded objects
- Interpreting scan data in real time and clearly explaining findings and limitations to clients
- Assessing site conditions and selecting appropriate scanning methods
- Identifying congested, high-risk, or inconclusive areas and recommending safe next steps
- Producing clear field documentation, photographs, drawings, and scan reports
- Coordinating professionally with site supervisors, engineers, trades, and cutting or coring crews
- Inspecting and maintaining GPR equipment, accessories, and the assigned company vehicle
- Following FVCS procedures and all applicable site-safety requirements
- Supporting junior technicians and sharing practical field knowledge when required
Required experience and qualifications
- Professional, hands-on experience operating GPR equipment
- Experience using GPR on a daily or near-daily basis is strongly preferred
- Ability to independently collect and interpret GPR data—not simply assist another operator
- Practical experience locating embedded objects in reinforced concrete
- Understanding of concrete construction, reinforcement layouts, formwork, and common embedded building systems
- Ability to recognize scan limitations, interference, edge effects, and situations where a location cannot be confidently cleared
- Strong spatial reasoning, observational, and problem-solving abilities
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Professional judgment and confidence communicating with clients on active construction sites
- Valid driver’s licence and acceptable driving record
- Ability to lift and operate scanning equipment and work on floors, walls, and ceilings for extended periods
- Ability to work throughout Vancouver and the Lower Mainland
- Availability for occasional night, weekend, and out-of-town work
Experience with GSSI, Proceq/Screening Eagle, Hilti, Leica, IDS GeoRadar, or similar equipment is valuable. Applicants should identify the specific GPR makes and models they have operated and describe how frequently they used them.
What we value
We are looking for someone who is technically capable, dependable, honest about the limitations of the technology, and comfortable taking responsibility for their field decisions. Strong candidates will take pride in accurate work, clear reporting, and professional communication.
