We are seeking compassionate and grounded women in recovery to join our team as Recovery Mentors, walking alongside participants in a structured 12-week cohort program. The Recovery Mentor provides structured, relationship‑based peer support to women participating in a 12‑week cohort program grounded in SMART Recovery (Self‑Management and Recovery Training). Each Recovery Mentor supports a caseload of 6–14 women, offering individual mentoring within a time‑limited, cohort‑based framework. The role centres lived experience as a source of connection and leadership, while maintaining clear boundaries, consistency, and trauma‑informed practice. This position is ideal for someone who is firmly grounded in their own recovery and is motivated to walk alongside other women using evidence‑based tools and peer support principles.

Positions Required: 1 full-time position (37.5 hours/week) and 1 part-time position (estimated 15–25 hours/week depending on caseload).

Program Framework: SMART Recovery

This role is based on SMART Recovery, an international, research‑based approach to recovery that focuses on self‑management, motivation, coping with urges, emotional regulation, and building a balanced life.

Recovery Mentors use SMART Recovery tools and language throughout the 12‑week cohort to support participants in setting goals, strengthening skills, and building confidence in their recovery journeys. Training and support in SMART Recovery will be provided as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Mentoring & Cohort Support

Provide one‑to‑one mentoring to a caseload of 6–14 women over a structured 12‑week cohort cycle.
Facilitate weekly mentoring sessions using SMART Recovery principles and tools.
Build respectful, trusting, mentoring relationships with appropriate boundaries, grounded in lived experience and recovery‑oriented practice.
Support participants in identifying strengths, challenges, recovery goals, and practical next steps.

Program Participation & Collaboration

Participate in cohort programming, including group sessions and milestones, as required.
Collaborate with other Recovery Mentors and program staff to ensure continuity and quality of care.
Attend supervision, team meetings, and debriefs to support reflective practice and peer wellness.

Documentation & Communication

Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in line with organizational policies.
Complete required session notes and progress records for each participant.
Communicate relevant updates, successes, or concerns with the Recovery Mentoring Supervisor or appropriate team members.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Required:

Lived experience of recovery from substance use and/or related challenges, with sufficient stability to support others.
Ability and readiness to share lived experience in a purposeful, ethical, and recovery‑focused manner.
Strong interpersonal skills, including empathy, reliability, and clear professional boundaries.
Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative, team‑based environment.
Flexibility to mentor virtually or in person and willingness to travel to satellite locations in Sussex, KV, and St Stephen.
University degree, college diploma, or equivalent in social work, counselling, healthcare, education or related field.
At least 3 years’ experience in case management.
Valid Driver’s license and reliable means of transportation.

Assets:

Previous experience in peer support, mentoring, group facilitation, or community‑based services.
Training or familiarity with SMART Recovery, motivational interviewing, or similar approaches.
Experience working in women‑centred, trauma‑informed, or harm‑reduction settings.
Certification in Motivational Interviewing, or readiness to complete this training.

Working Conditions

Structured 12‑week cohort cycles.
Caseload of 6 - 14 participants per cohort.
Some flexibility required to align with participant and program schedules.
