Shuswap Children’s Association, originally the Shuswap Exceptional Children’s Association, was founded in 1982 by a group of parents of children with support needs who found they were unable to access services for their children. They were joined by community professionals, service providers, and others who shared the goals of the parents.
The Pathways Behaviour Support Facilitator is a leader in both the organization and the community. Reporting to the Behaviour Analyst, this position provides individualized and small-group behavioural support to families of children from birth to school age who are experiencing challenging behaviours and/or early mental health concerns. The primary focus of the position is Behaviour Interventionist work, including the implementation of behaviour support plans under the guidance and supervision of a Behaviour Analyst. In addition, the Facilitator supports Pathways to Hope playgroups and completes related administrative tasks to ensure a seamless, welcoming, and family-centered experience. This position works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to connect families to culturally safe, effective supports that emphasize wellness promotion, prevention, and early intervention.
Behaviour Interventionist Responsibilities
· Support families by developing and maintaining a positive relationship with their children.
· Provide 1-1 and small group behavioural support to children from birth to school age.
· Use evidence‑based, developmentally appropriate strategies that align with infant mental health and early childhood best practice.
· Collect, track, and document data related to children’s progress and outcomes.
· Participate in regular reviews of progress and communicate observations or concerns to the Behaviour Analyst in a timely manner.
· Prepare and organize materials needed for individual programs and sessions.
· Maintain safe, calm, and organized environments that support regulation and engagement.
· Participate in training, shadowing, and video review sessions as required.
· Collaborate with families, internal team members, and external professionals (e.g., SLP, OT, PT) as part of an integrated care team.
· Uphold confidentiality and privacy of all children, youth, and families.
Playgroup & Program Support Responsibilities
· Support Pathways to Hope playgroups by assisting with set‑up, group facilitation, and clean‑up as needed.
· Model responsive, play‑based interactions that promote social‑emotional development and caregiver connection.
· Provide informal support to caregivers during playgroup sessions, within role scope and under team guidance.
· Assist with light program administration tasks as assigned (e.g., preparing materials, attendance support, basic documentation).
· Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally safe environment for families accessing Pathways programs
Administration Responsibilities
· Work with the Pathways to Hope team to develop and implement appropriate caseload and waitlist management strategies.
· Assist the Pathways to Hope Family Support Worker as needed with administration support.
· Assist the Pathways to Hope Family Support Worker as needed with family support.
· Ensure the maintenance of client records and statistics in a timely manner.
· Ensure that all appropriate documentation is accurate and complete.
· Ensure confidentiality of all client information.
· In collaboration with Pathways to Hope team members review client files and caseload at least quarterly.
· Ensure the maintenance of program equipment and supplies.
· Enter in program data and statistics into client management software.
· Implement the policies and procedures of the Pathways to Hope Program in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the Shuswap Children’s Association.
· Attend job related meetings, including Shuswap Children’s Association Staff meetings.
· Maintain a professional and creative attitude through job-related training.
Community Responsibilities
· Keep up to date on resources and services available to families in the Shuswap region.
· Assist with SCA community events as required.
· Degree, diploma, or certificate in human services, early childhood education, child and youth care, or a related field.
· Experience working with children with support needs is an asset.
· Behaviour intervention, early years, or infant mental health experience is an asset.
· Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention, Mandt, or similar training is considered an asset.
· Strong basic computer skills and comfort with documentation.
· A minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a related field.
· Knowledge about child development and exceptional conditions in children.
· Strong commitment to family centered and trauma informed care.
· Enjoys play‑based interaction and working at the child’s developmental level.
· Comfortable supporting children with behavioural challenges and developmental differences.
· Calm, compassionate, and non-judgmental approach to supporting children and families with diverse needs.
· Respectful of diverse values and cultures of the families involved with the program.
· Strong interpersonal skills that include the ability to work and communicate and collaborate effectively with staff, the Board of Directors, clients, community members, and other service providers.
· Ability to work effectively and respectfully with other Shuswap Children’s Association staff and parents/guardians.
· Strong communication, administrative, organizational and time management skills.
· Ability to work independently, under direction and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
· Ability to advocate for families and children.
· Valid Class V BC driver’s license and reliable transportation.
· Criminal Record Check
· Current First Aid Certification, including C.P.R. (will provide course if needed)
