Job Summary
Mastermind Youth Foundation is seeking a skilled, detail-oriented Systems Engineering Technologist to support the development of interactive STEM products, agricultural technologies, robotics competition systems, and electronic components for youth-focused learning experiences. You’ll work closely with mechanical designers, educators, and program leads to bring real-world innovation into classrooms and competitive arenas.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Design & Integration
- Prototype and integrate low‑voltage electronic and control systems for interactive or automated applications
- Develop circuit layouts, wiring diagrams, and component specifications for multi‑component systems
- Integrate sensors, microcontrollers, and power systems into reliable, field‑ready assemblies
Interactive & Automated System Development
- Build and test timing systems, feedback devices, and responsive electronic elements
- Assist in configuring embedded systems that monitor, measure, or react to environmental inputs
- Ensure all systems are safe, durable, and suitable for frequent hands‑on use
Educational & Technical Product Development
- Collaborate on the design of classroom‑ready kits, training tools, and instructional technology
- Support the creation of user guides, wiring schematics, and setup documentation
- Assist with troubleshooting, validation testing, and documentation of electronic subsystems
Field & Infrastructure Support
- Contribute to the installation and commissioning of electronic or electromechanical systems in varied environments
- Integrate sensing, control, and indicator components into physical layouts or demonstration spaces
- Support calibration, maintenance, and performance checks for systems operating under different conditions
Collaboration & Execution
- Work under the direction of engineers, technologists, and program leads
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and design briefs to build functional prototypes
- Provide practical feedback on usability, safety, and system performance
Ideal Candidate
- Diploma or advanced certification in Electronics Engineering Technology, Systems Technology, or a related field
- Skilled in circuit design, soldering, wiring, and embedded systems (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.)
- Experience with automation, sensing systems, educational technology, or hands‑on prototyping is an asset
- Familiarity with CAD tools, PCB design software, and basic programming (C/C++, Python)
- Bilingual (English/French) and culturally responsive is a plus
- Reliable, collaborative, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working in iterative development environments
Compensation & Work Conditions
- Pay Rate: $18-$20 per hour
- Expected Hours: 35-40 hours
- Work Location: On-site in Sarnia-Lambton
