Scope of the position
The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the golf course’s aesthetic appeal and functionality, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for golfers. This role involves performing tasks such as turf and landscape maintenance, equipment operation, and event support. The Groundskeeper plays a vital role in upholding the course’s quality and appearance, contributing to smooth daily operations and enhancing the overall experience for members and guests.
Duties and responsibilities
Turf Maintenance:
- Perform regular upkeep of the golf course turf, including mowing, aerating, fertilizing, and watering to ensure healthy and well-maintained grass.
- Monitor grass growth and conditions, addressing any issues to maintain optimal course quality.
Landscape Maintenance:
- Maintain and enhance the landscaping throughout the course, including trimming bushes, shrubs, and trees, and caring for flower beds.
- Remove weeds and ensure all landscaping is aesthetically pleasing and well-kept.
Bunker Maintenance:
- Rake and maintain sand bunkers to ensure proper play conditions.
- Monitor bunker conditions and add sand as necessary to keep them functional and debris-free.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
- Operate and maintain landscaping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and carts.
- Conduct routine checks on equipment to ensure proper functioning and report issues to supervisors.
Course Setup, Maintenance, and Event Support:
- Assist with the setup of the golf course for daily play, tournaments, and special events, including placement of tee markers, pin flags, and signage.
- Provide support during events by ensuring the course is prepared and maintained before, during, and after the event.
- Walk the course regularly to collect trash and debris, ensuring the course remains clean and presentable
- Empty trash bins and maintain a clean environment around the facility.
Health and Safety Compliance:
- Inspect tools and equipment before use to ensure safety and proper working conditions.
- Follow all health and safety regulations, including the use of protective equipment and safe handling of tools and chemicals.
- Report safety hazards or equipment issues to the supervisor promptly.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor/Manager
Hours of Work & Schedule Expectations
- Work hours are structured to complete maintenance duties prior to daily golf play whenever possible
- This position follows an early start / early finish schedule
- Shifts may begin as early as 6:00 a.m.
- Weekly hours may vary depending on weather, course conditions, and operational needs
- Some weekend and holiday work may be required during the golf season
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in horticulture, landscaping, or groundskeeping is an asset.
- Previous experience in golf course maintenance or landscaping is preferred but not required.
- Ability to operate and maintain landscaping equipment and tools.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Physical ability to perform outdoor maintenance tasks and lift equipment (up to 50 lbs).
- Team player with a positive attitude and willingness to assist others.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
