About Us

Cigar Lake, located in northern Saskatchewan, is the world’s highest-grade uranium mine. The uranium produced at Cigar Lake is used for nuclear fuel products, which utilities around the world rely on to generate safe, reliable, emissions-free nuclear power. Cameco is one of the largest global providers of the uranium fuel needed to energize a clean-air world.

The Role

As part of the site operational group, shaft operations you will be responsible for:

Operating, inspecting and maintaining the main cage and skip conveyance.
Preparing equipment and materials to be moved to/from the underground using slings and rigging.
Operating equipment such as Telehandler’s and skid steer loader.
Working with a diverse workforce (Cameco employees, contractors, and trades personnel).
Fulfil all duties as detailed in the mine’s regulations Mine Shaft 1 operator training requirements.
Plan and execute rope changes, rope cuts and other shaft maintenance.

Required:

grade 12 diploma, or equivalent;
a minimum five years of underground mining industry experience;
must successfully pass the crane and rigging course;
previous mine shaft experience in a lead role;
ability to achieve and maintain hoist operator/supervisor certificate;
slinging and rigging experience in a lead role;
previous lead hand experience;
excellent communication and computer skills;
certification for transportation of explosives; and
work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft.
