Job Duties

1. Interview and select appropriate candidates for Essential Skills programs.
2. Administer appropriate & relevant occupation and skills assessments; assess candidates’ education & employment qualifications and histories; interpret results.
3. Advise candidates of appropriate programming pathway to employment.
4. Plan, develop and deliver classroom and workplace instruction as assigned, which will facilitate the learning of work related skills. This may include essential skills development, employment preparation, job search and personal management skills.
5. Manage within an adult centered learning environment, establish rapport, encourage aspirations and facilitate problem solving in a non-threatening environment.
6. Evaluate and report on learners’ progress in essential skills, labour market preparation and work experience courses, as assigned.
7. Assist learners in making occupation and training choices.
8. Maintain current labour market information and contact with employers, including management of employer database.
9. Promote program and learners’ workplace partnerships with business, industry, public sector and community based organizations
10. Work individually with employment readiness learners to help them select and secure work placements appropriate to their interests, skills and career/occupational choices.
11. Liaise with employers to facilitate the placement of learners at the workplace; assist with the development of training plans for the workplace.
12. Visit learners at workplaces; support supervisors in the evaluation of students’ performance; provide feedback and coaching to learners and workplace supervisors.
13. Complete and maintain learner record forms; ensure a system for the efficient utilization of instructional materials and resources.
14. Plan schedules, speakers and other activities relevant to delivering program.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)

1. Diploma or Degree in related field (i.e. Career development, Employment Counselling, Education, Workplace Training, Human Resources), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Two years recent and relevant experience working with adults in employment preparation programs.
3. Experience and training in group facilitation, teaching, and human resource development.
4. Experience in the use of career and skills assessment tools.
5. Demonstrated knowledge and involvement with local labour market including business, government and community based organizations.
6. Demonstrated competence and recent experience in the use of the internet, e-mail, MS Office Suite software and ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.
7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with learners and employers from diverse backgrounds, including indigenous peoples, newcomers to Canada, and people with disabilities.
8. Ability to function as a team member in an ever-changing environment.
9. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
